Moonshine Diva Breaks Her Maiden & Sets Fastest Time To $31,807 89 & Under Speed Index Stakes

OGDEN, UT–MAY 5, 2024–20 three-year-olds ran in three trials on Sunday at Weber Downs vying for a spot back in the $31,807 89 & Under Speed Index Stakes finals on May 19 (not black type).

It was a rainy afternoon with a 15 mph crosswind, but that didn't slow Moonshine Diva from clocking the fastest qualifying time to the 89 & Under Stakes in the third of three trials.

Moonshine Diva, piloted by Ricardo Del Cid set the time to beat in :17.622 seconds clocking a 102 speed index. She broke her maiden in the 350-yard trial race and now has $6,166 in earnings from five starts. Gerardo Medina saddled the three-year-old filly for owner Anna Aguirre.

Crown Horse Racing LLC bred Moonshine Diva in Louisiana out of the Tempting Dash mare Shez Tempting Me. The daughter of Moonin The Eagle was an $11,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate in 2022.

Jockey Luis Roche guided Dr Minion to a 3/4-length wire-to-wire victory over Rmaleficent. The speedster clocked a 101 speed index in :17.655 seconds for the second-fastest qualifying time.

The trial win today is the second victory from only three outs for Dr Minion, who is trained and owned by Jairo Montes. The son of Dominyun, who only ran twice in his freshman campaign, has $3,110 in earnings. Hector Padilla bred the three-year-old colt in California out of Remarkable Eyesa by Eyesa Special.
