OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 5, 2024–Two Four Going Hot flew down the track like his hooves were on fire as he smoked a field of horses in the featured allowance race Sunday for the fourth win of his career, including his last three in a row.

It was the 4-year-old gelding’s fourth win in eight tries at Remington Park, but he has been unbeatable against allowance horses here this meet.

The son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon, out of the Jesse James Jr mare Two Wines, won on March 17 here by a neck against Oklahoma-bred allowance non-winners of two lifetime. He then stepped up to allowance non-winners of three next time out on April 20 and beat them by a neck.

His victory under jockey Gonzalo Gutierrez on Sunday was his most impressive yet, continuing to step up in class to allowance non-winners of four, winning by three-quarters of a length at 330 yards.

Gutierrez got Two Four Going Hot out of the gate like a bolt of lightning in this race and never was headed, hitting the wire in :16.633 for a speed-index of 95 over a sealed and muddy track.

He was sent off at odds of 6-1 and paid $15 to win, $6.40 to place and $4.60 to show. Trainer Rodrigo Covarrubias had this hard-knocking gelding set on go for this meet and he is now three-for-three with him.

Two Four Going Hot earned $17,334 for owner Vaqueros Racing of Wichita, Kan., from the $28,475 purse and improved lifetime to 17 starts, four wins, four seconds and two thirds for a bankroll of $84,090.

All four of his wins have come at Remington Park, breaking his maiden here on May 20, 2023. Two Four Going Hot’s record in Oklahoma City is now eight starts and four wins for earnings of $64,524 here. He was bred in Oklahoma by Doug Ruby.

The winner was followed by runner-up Bigg Wagon (4-1), who was another three-quarters of a length ahead of third-place finisher Duanes Little Dee (20-1). The 6-5 favorite, Volcom Cartel, could do no better than seventh.

It was the 17th win of the season for Gutierrez, who sits in sixth place in the jockeys’ standings. The top five reveals an incredible race for the top as three riders are tied for first with 28 trips to the winner’s circle each – Ali Rivera, Roman Cruz and Edwin Escobedo, who won the title last year. In fourth and fifth are Bryan Candanosa and Francisco Calderon with 24 and 23 victories, respectively.

In the trainers’ standings, Matt Whitekiller and Dee Keener are tied for first with 20 victories apiece and are followed closely by three trainers that have 19 wins each – John Stinebaugh, Jason Olmstead and Toby Keeton.

Live racing continues next week, May 9-12, with the trials for the Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity on tap Thursday and Friday night. The five fastest horses from each night will meet in the finals on Saturday, June 1, closing night. There will be 12 trials Thursday and 12 on Friday. The first race on Thursday, Friday and Saturday is at 6pm. The first race on Sunday goes off at 4pm. All times are Central.
