Whitekiller Trains Top Five In PSBA American Paint Classic & Painted To Be Quick Pulls Major Upset

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 28, 2024–The top five finalists in the $161,600 PSBA American Paint Classic Stakes [G1] at Remington Park on Sunday were all conditioned by leading APHA trainer Matt Whitekiller, who qualified a total of six and the results were unexpected.

Painted To Be Quick pulled a whopping upset beating all of his stablemates on 40-1 odds paying  $83.40 to win, $30.40 to place, and $19.60 to show. T Rexie and Shadowing Pt finished in a dead heat for place and the fastest qualifier Wire Transfer was surpassed for fourth. Favorite Turnpike placed fifth.

Jockey Bryan Candanosa guided Painted To Be Quick to her first stakes victory while breaking her maiden. The $60,648 winner's share of the purse increased her lifetime earnings to $62,398.

Matt Whitekiller commented, "It's a good way to break her maiden."

Painted To Be Quick was out of the gates in fifth place but pulled into the lead by first call and kept it to the wire. The duo clocked an 84 speed index in :16.988 seconds in the 330-yard finals.

When asked about her performance, Candanoso reported, "She didn't get away too good but she had heart. I looked over and T Rexie was coming up on me and I was kinda worried they were going to pass me.

Painted To Be Quick placed second in the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Trials on March 7 and finished fourth in her trial heat to the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity with the sixth fastest time.

"She schooled really fast and got a lot of publicity but her first out was not very good in the mud. She did well in the trials but all the horses were good so I wasn't sure how she was going to run in the finals," said Whitekiller. "I am really happy for Bryan."

Bred and owned by Bryan Hawk of Oklahoma, Painted To Be Quick is out of Quick To The Wire by CRM Livewire.

Hawk said, "She's pretty special. She's out of a CRM Livewire mare and sired by Painted Turnpike, you don't get much better than that."

Runner up T Rexie ridden by Daniel Torres, broke her maiden last month at Remington Park. She has a record of 1-2-0 from four starts with $33,858 in earnings. Amy and Brent Page bred the brown filly in Oklahoma out of No Pokey Okey by Okey Dokey Dale.

Shadowing Pt, with Francisco Calderon in the irons, crossed the wire for place in a dead heat with T Rexie. Bryan Hawk also owns the bay colt bred by Chuck Bowlan of Oklahoma.

Shadowing Pt, who was third fastest qualifier in the trials, won his trial heat and has a record of 1-2-0 from three starts with $30,814 in the bank. The bay colt is out of Sadies Shadow by Judys Lineage.

Post-time favorite Wire Transfer broke her undefeated win streak and finished fourth with L. Martinez in the driver's seat. The three-time winner bred and owned by Robin Haggard is out of Miss Fly On Tac by Tac It Like A Man and has $102,670 in earnings.

Four of the top five finalists were by Painted Turnpike who was the sire of seven qualifiers total to the finals. Wire Transfer was sired by CRM Livewire.

Behind the top five finishers, Pfr Road Rage was sixth, Frionas Turnpike seventh, Wf Jess Candy eighth, Wl Karma ninth and Turnpike Tripping placed tenth.

Be sure to catch the six stakes races postponed from Saturday night, April 27, at Remington Park which are rescheduled to run on Monday, April 29 starting at 1:00 pm-Central.
