Funeral Services Set Friday for Texas Horseman Jimmy R. Coffman

DECATUR, TX–MARCH 20, 2024–Funeral services will be held Friday (Mar 22) for Texas horseman Jimmy R. Coffman, 86, who passed away March 18, 2024.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (CDT) at the Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur (405 E Main St, Decatur, TX 76234-1513). Burial will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Chico Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Chase Coffman, Paul Cantrell, Ty Schlottman, Dalton Anderson, Ace Edgett, Dennis Halter, and Brandon Barrett. Honorary pallbearer is Kenneth Manning.

Jimmy was born May 24, 1937, to Alexander Clarence and Pauline (Lumas) Coffman in Bridgeport, Texas.

He was united in marriage December 19, 1979, to Elaine Buckner in Tarrant County.

Jimmy graduated Chico High School and owned and operated Coffman Tank Trucks for many years before retiring.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many who will miss him dearly.

Coffman, who campaigned many racing Quarter Horses, was co-owner of 2000 Rainbow Futurity(G1) third-place finisher The Way You Want Me. The daughter of  Mr Eye Opener is a sister to Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Thewayoumantmetoo, the dam of champion A Revenant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Pauline Coffman.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Elaine Coffman of Decatur; his daughter, Leslie Monett and husband Kyle of Decatur; his sons, J.D. Coffman and wife Terrisa of Chico, and Scott Anderson and wife Laurie of New Fairview; 5 grandchildren, Chase Coffman & wife Hannah, Jessica Schottmann and husband Ty, Dalton Anderson, Kelsie Worley, and Cambrie Anderson; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Paula Buckner, and Janie Ward; extended family members and a host of friends.
