O Donovan Rossa Headlines AQHA Remington Distance Challenge
BY MICHAEL CUSORTELLI
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 5, 2024–A field of seven distance specialists, led by Kelly Yother Equine's O Donovan Rossa, will face the Remington Park starter in Sunday's 870-yard, $30,000 AQHA Remington Distance Challenge Stakes (G2).
A homebred 6-year-old son of world champion Apollitical Jess trained by Dee Keener, O Donovan Rossa made his season debut with a fifth-place finish in the March 16, 550-yard SLM Big Daddy Stakes (G3) at Remington Park. However, the gelding has won six of his 10 races at the 870 trip, including last year's Grade 2 Pauls Valley Stakes at Remington, and his 2023 campaign included a second-place finish, five lengths behind winner and eventual champion distance horse The Grand Legend, in the 870-yard, $104,000 Cox Ranch Distance Challenge Championship (G1) at Lone Star Park.
O Donovan Rossa drew post 4 and will be ridden by Roman Cruz.
The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments:
- Invincible Streak (Eugenio Navarrete Jr.)
- Wynnmesomemoney (Eleazar Hernandez)
- Markus Aurelius (Andrew Samaniego)
- O Donovan Rossa (Roman Cruz)
- Kornfusion (James Flores)
- Dak L. (Salvador Martinez)
