BY MICHAEL CUSORTELLI
HOUSTON, TX–MAY 7, 2024–Peppa, a homebred daughter of the Apollitical Jess stallion Chilitos racing for the Terrazas Family, is the morning-line favorite for Friday's 350-yard, $102,382 John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Sam Houston Race Park.
Peppa made her debut with a neck victory in one of six trials run April 19, a heat which produced six of the 10 finalists. The brown filly drew the rail post and will be ridden by Agustin Silva for trainer Arturo Terrazas III.
Kevin Hogan's Hogans Hero made her career debut with a second-place finish in Peppa's trial. The Valiant Hero filly drew post 6 and will be ridden by Luis Vivanco for trainer Toby Keeton.
Also on Friday, 10 sophomores are entered back in the 400-yard, $69,938 Adequan Sam Houston Derby Challenge.
Fastest qualifier Ensignia is coming off of a half-length victory in the second of three trials on April 19. Gilberto Gonzalez trains the Duponte gelding and $29,000 TQHA Yearling Sale purchase for owner Guerras Racing Stable.
Ensignia drew post 4 and will be ridden by Oliver E. Martinez.
