Open Me A Corona Stakes, Old South Futurity Trials Headline Saturday Program at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA–APRIL 25, 2022–A full field of 10 Louisiana-bred sprinters is entered in Saturday's 350-yard, $40,000 Open Me A Corona Stakes (R) at Delta Downs.
Fausto G. Mendoza's Swamp Eagle drew post 8 and will be ridden by Leonardo Rodriguez for trainer Joel Huitron. A 5-year-old son of Heza Fast Dash, the gelding will be stretching out in distance off of his second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Johnny de Capo, in a 250-yard, $30,000 open-condition allowance dash at Louisiana Downs on April 6.

Also on Saturday, 55 juveniles are entered in seven 330-yard Old South Futurity trials.
Alamada Racing's Blood N Pepper, a sorrel son of Apollitical Blood trained by Josue Ponce, is coming off of a second-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Bye Corona Bye, in the April 3, $217,000 West Texas Futurity (G2) at Sunland Park in New Mexico. A $26,500 purchase at last year's Texas QHA Yearling Sale, the colt has earned $44,445 from two outs.
Blood N Pepper drew the rail post and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr. in the second heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the May 21, $50,000-added Old South Futurity final.
