Wranglin Gump Wins First Running of Ontario Sires Stakes Derby

AJAX, ONT—AUGUST 7, 2012—Lisa Kalvoda's homebred Wranglin Gump exploded late to catch fastest qualifier Kissmystarrydash at the wire Tuesday afternoon in the 1st running of the $117,965(US) Ontario Sires Stakes Derby at Ajax Downs. Trainer Don Reid saddled the trifecta with Red Kelly finished third.

Under jockey Helen Vanek the bay gelding, who broke second behind Kissmystarrydash, completed the 330 yard course in :16.930 seconds to pickup the winner's purse of $47,186(US), pushing his earnings mark to $72,889.

Making only one start at two, the Eye Dash 3-year-old has been almost perfect this season with four wins in five starts. He is out of the First Wrangler mare Wranglin Reba.

Brian Bell was aboard Kissmystarrydash for owner/breeder Donald Ito. Reid conditions the Star Fire Dash gelding out of the Strawfly Special mare Strawfly Fortune. With a 2-1-1 record in four starts, Kissmystarrydash has earned $38,807.

Reid got his trifecta with Whispering Winz Racing's homebred Red Kelly. Jeff MacLaren rode the Eye Dash gelding out of Royal Gate by Relagate (TB). A winner of four races, he has earned $72,487.

Completing the field were Pegasos One Underpar, Fly Fast For Kayley, Midnight Justice, Star Fire Seis, Hurricane Alexandra, Black Chart and Mr Cougarlicious.
