SHELBYVILLE, IN—MAY 25, 2013—Gallant Ways annihilated the Indiana Downs 400 yard track record in the $29,080 Indiana Downs Championship and Tf First Pick scored a three-length winning effort in the $28,120 Leader Of The Class Stakes on Saturday at Indiana Downs.
Indiana Downs Championship
Racing for owner/trainer Matt Frazier Gallant Ways roared to a 2 ¼ length victory over Speed Smith in the Indiana Downs Championship. Under jockey Shanley Jackson the 8-year-old covered the 400 yard course in a blistering :19.607 seconds, a 111 speed index, to establish a new track record. The previous record of :19.833 was set June 30, 2012 by Got Courage.
Bred in Missouri by Clara Lucille Webb, the Make It Anywhere gelding scored his eighth career win and the $15,994 winner's purse pushed his career total to $248,604. He is out of the Corona Cartel mare Corona Bikini.
Speed Smith picked up $5,816 for his second place effort. The Prime Talent 5-year-old races for owner Cesar Rosales and trainer Rolando Almanza. Juan Delgado had the riding assignment. Sylvia Shaw Pitman bred the earned of more than $116,000 in Texas from the First Down Dash mare Speedy Empress.
Successful Dash finished a length back in the show position for owner Randy Thompson. Thomas Mosley, Jr. conditions the 4-year-old Cartel Success gelding out of Rita Anns Dash, by Dash For Cash. Bred by Bill Price, the $2,908 show check boosted his career total to more than $97,000. Harold Collins was up.
My Corona Is Rare, Brimmerton Lane, The Star Alert and Jhony Red completed the field. Fearless Fred was scratched.
Leader Of The Class Stakes
Jeanette Hoover's Tf First Pick went wire-to-wire while defeated Calamity Jamie by three-quarters in the $28,120 Leader Of The Class Stakes on Saturday at Indiana Downs.
Ron Raper saddled the Dash To First Place 4-year-old to his seventh win in 19 starts. The $15,466 winner's purse pushes his career earnings mark to $221,269. Ridden by Juan Guerrero, he completed the 350 yards course in :17.788 seconds, a 94 speed index over the fast track.
Steve Tate bred the chestnut gelding in Louisiana from the Special Project mare Pick Your Passion.
Making her first start since traveling to Florida for the Hialeah Park meet that ended in February, Calamity Jane earned $5,624 for owner Miguel Lechuga. Ricardo Martinez trains the Bobby Cox bred daughter of Ivory James out of El Streaker, by Packin Sixes. Osdany Leal had the riding assignment.
Dick Harrison's homebred Casey Corona finished half-a-length back in the show position to pocket $2,812 for his effort. Carol Rettele conditions the 3-year-old Corona For Me gelding from the Heza Fast Man mare Precious Debutante. Richard Rettele was up.
Completing the course were I Is It, Teller Sweet Nothins, Sixy Lil Garter and Its Just Max.
