Pink Berreta And Viento Negro Score Easy Victories In Their Respective Debuts

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 13, 2014—Balgo Racing Team, Inc’s Pink Berreta and Celina Molina’s Viento Negro came into their racing debuts having posted some of the fastest morning workouts of the season at Los Alamitos Race Course.

The promising juveniles followed their sharp training form with tremendous debut wins, as Carlos Huerta piloted Pink Berreta to a flawless ¾ length victory in the fifth race of the evening, while Raul Valenzuela guided Viento Negro to a runaway 1 ¼ length decision in the seventh.

Bred by Balgo Racing and saddled by Lindolfo Diaz, Pink Berreta won his 300-yard outing in a time of :15.406, which ranks among the top clockings for a 2-year-old so far this year. The filly by Mr Eye Opener and out the Walk Thru Fire mare Home Wreckers Fire had the fastest of 42 drills at 220 yards (:12.30) on March 15 and the fastest of 50 drills (:12.0) on March 29. She did just as well in her debut, rocketing out of the gate from post number four and never being challenged from that point on.

“She was impressive,” Diaz said. “She’s done everything right from the beginning. She was really calm in the paddock and did everything perfect. She’s a nice filly to be around and I wish all 2-year-olds were like this.”

Pink Berreta is expected to make her next start in the trials to the Kindergarten Futurity on May 4.

Trained by Juan Aleman, Viento Negro recovered from a less than perfect start to deliver a rather perfect finish in his debut.

“He didn’t break,” said jockey Raul Valenzuela. “I got after him a couple of times and he took off. He was gone from there. He’s going to be a real good one.”

The owner of the fastest (:12.10) of 50 workouts posted on the morning of March 25, Viento Negro covered the 300 yards in a solid clocking of :15.507. Bred in Arizona by the owner, the colt was sired by First Moonflash and is out of the Corona Cartel mare Coup Of Corona.

“I let my dad name him and he picked the title of a Mexican movie that he really likes,” said Molina referring to a classic film from the 1960s.

“Viento Negro has been special from the start. We almost lost him as a baby and had to have emergency surgery. I told the doctors that they needed to save my horse, and they did. This horse is a blessing in my life. When he was growing up, he would sneak out through a spot in the gate to go wonder around. When he was done, he would return and sneak back in through that very same spot. He is special.”

Viento Negro is eligible to the Ruidoso, Rainbow and All American futurities at Ruidoso Downs. At Los Alamitos, he’s eligible to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity.
