Fdd Trickze Posts Top Qualifying Time in Alberta Bred Derby Trials

EDMONTON, ALB—JULY 30, 2014—Making his first start since winning an Allowance at Lethbridge in May, Fdd Trickze got up in the final stride to put a head in front of Tres Bubbles and post the top qualifying time for the Alberta Bred Derby at Northlands Park Wednesday evening.

The ten fastest Alberta-bred qualifiers will return to the Edmonton racetrack on Saturday, August 16 and vie for the winner's share of a $25,000-est. purse going 330 yards.

Ridden by Larris Allen, Fdd Trickze completed the course in :17.150 seconds into a 15 mph headwind to earn a 93 speed index and set the top qualifying mark. The FDD Dynasty gelding was the first of three finalists saddled by Kurt Calton.

Fdd Trickze picked up his third win in nine career starts for owner Janis D. Calton. Ed Vanee and R. Sakamoto bred the brown gelding from the Azoom mare Trickzfun. A multiple stakes qualifier last season, he has earned $11,211.

Janice Sather saddled stakes winner Keepin Good Karma to an impressive 1¾ length win in the last trial. Ridden by Sean Evans, the Promised Class gelding covered the 330 yards in :17.160 seconds, also a 93 speed index getting the second fastest qualifying time.

Janice and Barry Sather bred-and-own the 3-year-old out of Keep On Keepin On, by Dash To Chivato. Keepin Good Karma has earned $ 33,751.

The aforementioned Tres Bubbles held on to the third fastest mark of :17.170, another 93 speed index. Bradford Stewart rode the Tres Seis filly for owner Herds Racing and trainer/breeder Donalda Cochrane. The bay miss is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Bubbles La Jolla.

Stakes winner Remington Memories got the fourth fastest clocking of :17.240 seconds following a head victory over Holdnjacks in the first trial. Laurie Ferguson saddled the Wild On Corona gelding out of Ms Magic Memories, by Leaving Memories, for owner/breeder Blair Anton. Remington Memories has won four of 11 starts and earned $42,502.

Ferguson also saddled fifth fastest qualifier Holdnjacks, a Hawkinson gelding owned by Brian Schiebelbein.
