CLAREMORE, OK—AUGUST 23, 2014—American Quarter Horse racing got underway Saturday off-the-card at Will Rogers Downs with 10 trials for the $150,000 Black Gold 350 Futurity Division and two trials for the $25,000-added Kansas Jackpot Futurity.
The 10 fastest from both sets of trials will return to the Claremore racetrack on Saturday, September 6 and vie for the winner's share of the purses in their respective races going 350 yards.
Black Gold 350 Futurity Trials
Racing for Palomino Trucking, Inc., Bp Run Cartel Run won the fifth of 10 trials Saturday afternoon while posting the top qualifying time of :17.461 seconds. Omar Reyes rode the Cartel Success colt for trainer Jose Gamez.
It was the second win in four career starts for the Oklahoma-bred bay. Bill Price bred Bp Run Cartel Run from the Southern Cartel mare Run Kita Run. Prior to his trial effort he broke his maiden at Fair Meadows by one-length on June 18 then followed that with a second place Allowance test finish at the Tulsa raceway on July 25.
The second fastest qualifier also came from the fifth race when Bella Vista Farms, LLC's Bv Never Give Up finished second. Eddie Lee Willis conditions the Shzoom filly out of Corona Cayenne, by Corona Cartel. Still a maiden, the lightly race filly entered the trials of third place effort in a $20,000 claiming event at Remington Park on May 9. Larry D. Payne had the ridding assignment.
Zoom Thru Fire broke her maiden in the final trial to post the third fastest time of :17.605 seconds for owner Jerry Windham and trainer Clinton Crawford. Michael Bauman bred the three-time starters by Jess Zoomin in Oklahoma from the Walk Thru Fire mare La Dominica.

Kansas Jackpot Futurity Trials
Cute Ivory James won the first of two trials Saturday at Will Rogers Downs to post the top qualifying time of :18.037 seconds for the $25,000-added Kansas Jackpot Futurity.

Terry Freeman's Nanny McFeebe won the second trial and posted the second fastest time of :18.049 seconds. It was the second win in as many starts for the Debbie Freeman bred-and-rode Furtyofthewind filly out of Sexy N Saucy, the Streakin La Jollla. Jackie Kirby saddled the winner.
