In a blanket finish Open Me A Corona (#7) set a new track record over Fdd Going Grand (#4) and Lets Jess Do It (#9) in the Gentilly Dash Stakes at Fair Grounds Race Course.

Open Me A Corona Gets New Track Record in Gentilly Dash Victory

NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 23, 2014—Despite a bobbled start, super consistent Open Me A Corona set a new track record on Saturday with a nose victory over Fdd Going Grand in the $40,000 Gentilly Stakes at Fair Grounds Racecourse in New Orleans. Lets Jess Do It was another neck back in third.

Jockey David Alvarez gathered the four-year-old up to finish the 250-yard course in a quick :12.840 seconds, a 106 speed index. The previous track record of :12.841 were established by Jcs Who on August 29, 2013.

Bobby Martinez saddled the Coronas Leaving You colt to his sixth win (third stakes) in seven career starts. The $24,000 Gentilly winner's purse boosted Open Me A Corona's earnings mark to $523,198. Charles Forbes, Jr. and Tommy Hays own the restricted Grade 1 winner out of In The Open, by Mr Eye Opener. Natalie Montgomery, DVM is the breeder.

Fdd Going Grand just missed after breaking on top for owner/breeder Mercy Hinklin's Horse Farm, LLC. Kenneth Roberts, Sr. conditions the FDD Dynasty Texas-bred 4-year-old from the Corona Cartel mare Cash Cartel. Also a graded stakes winner, the sorrel colt picked up $8,000 for finishing second.

Martinez also saddled Lets Jess Doe It for owner Noe Pena. Easy Acres Performance Horses bred the First Prize Perry colt in Louisiana by from the Separatist mare Lets Separate. A multiple stakes winner of more than $137,000 he earned $4,400 for the effort. Alfonso Lujan had the riding assignment.

Rosouti, The Notradamus, Scream N Eagle, Feisty Favorite, Laynes Corona On Ice and Mr Ease Cartel completed the field.
