ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 28, 2014—Ridden by jockey Alonso Rivera, Take The Spoon Man raced to a new track record as he defeated Rex Hill by a half-a-length Sunday afternoon in the Tecate Zoom Zoom Zoom Stakes at The Downs in Albuquerque. Fittest finished a nose back in third.
The 4-year-old gelded son of Takin On Spoon Man completed the 220 yards in a quick :11.680 seconds to earn a 112 speed index. The previous track record of :11.756 was set September 28, 2013 by Osbaldo.
Javier Roman, Jr. saddled the black gelding to his sixth win in 14 career starts for owner Mario Dominguez and Christian Olivas-Dominguez. The $35,960 winner's purse boosted Take The Spoon Man's earning's mark to $116,219. Anjora Crop bred the gelding in New Mexico from the Ought To Be First mare Frisco First.
Winning for a $25,00 tag last Spring, stakes-placed Fittest earned $2,248 for his third place effort, pushing his earnings mark over $120,000. Umberto Belloc conditions the Separatist 5-year-old for owner Maria De Los Angeles Ramirez. Double Bar S Ranch, LLC bred the gray gelding in California from the First Down Dash mare Fit And Fabulous.
Osbaldo, Balderinas Fame Cr, Separate Wild and Rock That Wagon completed the field.
