Big Hoss Rollin Tops Alberta Bred Futurity Qualifiers

LETHBRIGE, ALB—SEPTEMBER 28, 2014—Big Hoss Rollin got his second win Sunday with a neck advantage over Pros Rockstar to set the top qualifying mark for the Alberta Bred Futurity at Lethbridge.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the five trial races conducted on Sunday's card for Alberta-bred 2-year-olds, will return to the Canadian raceway on Sunday, October 12 and vie for the winner's share of a $50,000-added purse going 400 yards.

Ridden by jockey Ricardo Moreno for trainer Angelle Carter, Big Hoss Rollin completed his 400 yard task in :20.548 seconds into a 9 mph headwind to get the top qualifying time. The Zillas Spin Doctor gelding races for owner Deanne Davies. Bred by Sazwan Speed Horses, the bay gelding is from the Dashing Val mare Sables Val.

Cruisinfourabrusin was an impressive 1¾-length winner in the fourth trial to post the second fastest clocking of :20.579 seconds. Sean Evans rode the homebred First Timber gelding for owners Barry and Janice Sather. Also trained by Janice, Cruisinfourabrusin entered the trials off a win in the Canada Quarter Horse Futurity on September 14. The sorrel out of Tagulator, by Royal Evening Snow, has a (8) 4-3-0 record this season and has earned $47,526.

The Sathers' qualified three finalists to the Alberta Bred Futurity including fourth fastest Tequila Tuesday, a Coronas Fast Dash homebred out of Keep On Keepin On, by Dash To Chivato. Phillip Clunis had the riding call and won the first trial by half-a-length.

Juno Dat Timber, another First Timber gelding, won the third trial to post the fifth fastest time of :20.618 seconds. A homebred for Wesley T. Oulton, the gray gelding is out of Dashing Snowbound, by Snowbound (TB). It was the second consecutive victory for the Les Adams trainee. Larris Allen had the riding assignment.

First Timber was the only sire with multiple qualifiers getting three into the final. The son of world champion and world champion-sire Oak Tree Special, out of the blue hen mare First Prize Dash, is a half-brother to 2013's leading sire of money earners Heza Fast Dash.
