Country Boy Deluxe Gets Fourth Straight In Alex Picov Memorial Championship

AJAX, ONT—SEPTEMBER 30, 2014—Fastest qualifier Country Boy Deluxe held off First Down The Track by a neck to get his fourth consecutive win Tuesday in the $133,050 Alex Picov Memorial Championship at Ajax Downs. Piranhaaa also put in an impressive effort to finish a head behind the leaders in third.

Owned-and-trained by Stan Webb and ridden by jockey Corp Spataro, Country Boy Deluxe completed the 440 yards in a quick :21.820 seconds to earn a 103 speed index. The 5-year-old son of champion Country Chicks Man picked up $47,220 to bring his bankroll to more than $145,000.

Lucas Racing Inc. bred the sorrel gelding in Florida from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Deluxe. His multiple stakes winner's record stands at (28) 9-3-4.

Also a multiple stakes winner, First Down The Track earned $23,610 to boost her earnings total to $168,978. Kim Ito conditions the Corona Cartel 4-year-old from the First Down Dash mare First Down Runner for Richard Wincikaby and DK Training Centre. Chelsey Willick had the riding call aboard the Lance Robinson and Max Anderson Utah bred.

Another Florida-bred, Piranhaaa picked up $11,805 for his owner Doreen Mathieu. Barry Wood saddled the First Down Straw 4-year-old out of Eyes Like Rapid, by Mr Eye Opener. Tony Phillips had the riding assignment. Flying Fisch Farm, Inc. bred the $63,136 earner.

The FDD Map, One Famous Glass, Suarnspicenotsonice and Ourfirstorphan completed the field. Mitford, Mr Victory Six and Silken Memories were all scratched.
