Delightful Cat Fastest Qualifier to Oklahoma Horsemen's Association's Mystery Derby

CLAREMORE, OK—OCTOBER 25, 2014—Stakes winner Delightful Cat raced to an impressive three-quarter length win over Mikes Frito Wagon Saturday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs to garner the top qualifying mark for the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association's Mystery Derby(RG3).

Two trials were contested, for 3-year-old accredited Oklahoma-breds, and the 10 fastest qualifiers are set to return to Claremore, Oklahoma on Saturday, November 8th and vie for the winner's share of a $52,500 purse over a 350 yard course.

Winner of the Cherokee Nation Stakes last season, Delightful Cat raced over the 350 yard course Saturday afternoon in a quick :17.360 seconds to post the top time and earn a 102 speed index. Brandon Reed conditions the Red Storm Cat filly for owners Joyce and Troy McClennen. Jack McClennen bred the brown miss in Oklahoma from the Tour de Kas mare Tour Delight. Her record stands at (12) 5-0-4 with $43,522 in earnings. Agustin Silva had the riding call.

Reed, who saddled half the Mystery Derby qualifiers, also trains the aforementioned Mikes Frito Wagon who held onto the second fastest time of :17.479 seconds. James Fobber owns the Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding out of Sister Strawfly, by Strawfly Special. Cody Wainscott was aboard the 3-year-old who entered the trial race off an October 10th win for a $15,000 tag at Will Rogers. Shelley Coldwell Goodnight is the breeder.

Marty Powers' Leaving won the final trial by three-quarters of length to post the seventh fastest qualifying time of :17.611 seconds. Kasey Willis trains the Valiant Hero colt who was a winner on September 26th at Prairie Meadows in an Optional Claiming race. Today's win was the fourth straight for the Valiant Hero gelding out of Rg Special by Special Depth. 21 Racing is the breeder and Cesar Gomez had the riding assignment.
