Fal Vegas Sets New Track While Posting Fastest Time in El Moro de Paradise Stakes on Saturday

PHOENIX—OCTOBER 25, 2014—Fal Vegas got up at the wire Saturday afternoon over Mackies Wagon to set a new track record for 300 yards while recording the top qualifying time for the El Moro de Paradise Stakes at Turf Paradise.

Under jockey Ronald Richard, Fal Vega completed the 300 yards in :15.272 seconds, a 109 speed index. The previous record of :15.412 was established by Jess Joyner on December 16, 2011.

Racing for owner Fabian Gutierrez, Fal Vegas has won six of 23 lifetime starts and earned over $42,280. Ubaldo Guerrero conditions the 6-year-old son of leading sire Azoom. Saturday was the first start this season for the brown gelding who was winless in three starts last year. Fal Cattle is the breeder.

Half the field, including the top four qualifiers, drafted into the El Moro de Paradise finals off Fal Vegas' track record performance. Mackies Wagon posted the second fastest time of :15.273, also a 109 speed index. The Pyc Paint Your Wagon 4-year-old entered the trials with a three-race win streak dating back to January 11th. Armando Castellanos conditions the stakes winner for owner Ricardo Biebrich. Emilio Tapia was aboard.

The second trial went to Armando Castellanos' owned-and-trained Surf Dog who posted the fifth fastest time of :15.484 seconds. Chase Clark rode the First Down Dash 7-year-old gelding out of Runaway Wave, by Runaway Winner. Lucas Racing, Inc. is the breeder.
