Candys Cartel Cat Bounces to Top Mystery Futurity Trial Time

Candys Cartel Cat Bounces to Top Mystery Futurity Trial Time

CLAREMORE, OK—OCTOBER 25, 2024—Coming off a sixth place performance in the Dash For Cash Futurity trials on September 27th Candy Cartels Cat scored her second win in three starts while posting the top qualifying time to the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Futurity(RG3) Sunday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs.

The 10 fastest accredited Oklahoma-bred two-year-olds, from the four trial races, will return Saturday, November 8th and vie for the winner's share of $141,000 purse over 350 yards.

The lightly races Candys Cartel Cat broke her maiden at Prairie Meadows at the end of August recording a 101 speed index in her first start. Following her misstep at Lone Star Park the homebred Red Storm Cat filly, owned the Estate of Carl Pevehouse, returned to her winning ways under jockey Tony Bennett.

The bay miss completed the 350 yard task in a quick :17.408 seconds to set the bar. Clinton Crawford trains Candy Cartel Cat, an Oklahoma-bred from the Corona Cartel mare Candy Cartel.

Six of the ten finalists came out of Candy Cartel Cat's trial race including the top four qualifiers.

Edward Leslie's homebred Gold Digging Ashley finished a nose off Candy Cartels Cat to get the second fastest time of :17.411 seconds, also a 99 speed index. Ty Blackwell saddled the super consistent Insperable filly whose record stands at (6) 3-2-1. She is out of the Heza Fast Man mare Ashleys Gold Digger.

A second Red Storm Cat 2-year-old, Corona Cat Quick, was an impressive two-length winner in the second trial to post the fifth fastest time of :17.582 seconds, a 94 speed index. Kasey Willis saddled the gelding to his second win six starts for himself and co-owner Sherry Dunn. Randy McDonald bred Corona Cat Quick from the Corona Cartel mare Miss Corona Quick. Cesar Gomez had the riding assignment.

Coming off a fifth place troubled effort in the $279,950 Valley Junction Futurity on October 17 at Prairie Meadows, Pv Ima Sparky Too won the first trial and set the seventh fastest time of :17.613. Clinton Crawford trains the winner of three of five starts this season for owner/breeder Gordon Pevehouse. Jesus Salazar rode the Country Chicks Man gelding out of Ima Lazie Too, by Okey Dokey Dale.

Paris Prize got her second win of the season in the final trial to post the eighth fastest time of :17.616. Alex Baldillez, Jr. rode the Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly for owners Looking For Gold Racing and trainer Brandon Reed. Weetona Stanley and William E. Smith bred the brown miss who finished third in the Cherokee Nation Stakes two races back. She is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare First Prize Paris.
