Flybye 109 Wins Alberta Stallion Futurity, Big Hoss Rollin Sets New Track Record In Derby

EDMONTON, ALB—JULY 29, 2015—With a perfect trip under jockey Jose Rocha, Flybye 109 held off First Prize Sass to win the $45,626(US) Alberta Stallion Futurity Wednesday evening at Northlands Park. Sheaintawhiskylulaby finished a head off the leaders in third place.

Flybye 109 completed the 330 yards in :16.970 seconds to earn a 98 speed index and pocket the $20,527(US) Alberta Stallion Futurity winner's purse. It was the second win from four starts for the bay filly that entered the race with the fastest qualifying time from the July 8 trials.

Bred-owned-and-trained by Bucky Stockwell, the Special Fly Bye 2-year-old is out of the Special Leader mare Eyes Double Quick. She has earned $26,720 this season.

Wesley Oulton's homebred First Prize Sass gave best late in the race under jockey Danielle DiBert. Oulton also trains the First Timber filly out of Sass N Dass, by El Rey Burner. The $9,123(US) boosted her career earnings mark to $16,024.

Sheaintawhiskylulaby races for owner/trainer William Leech. Ricardo Moreno rode the Sizzlin Red Corona filly out of Cleats Rockette by Dashing Cleat. The sorrel filly was bred by Garnet Leech and earned $5,474(US) for her effort.

Fiftys Carbon Copy, Better Knickers, Northfork Sizzle, Johnathen Meyer and Send Gold completed the field.

Big Hoss Rollin Gets Track Record In Alberta Stallion Derby

At 30-to-1 odds, Big Hoss Rollin put in a late run to upset the $22,905(US) Alberta Stallion Derby while setting a new 330 yard track record Wednesday evening at Northlands Park. Bitterroot Corona and favorite Cruisinfourabrusin finished a neck and neck off the winner for second and third.

Ridden by jockey Ramiro Castillo, Big Hoss Rollin completed the 330 yards in :16.684 seconds to earn a 107 speed index with the aid of a 20 mph tailwind. The previous track record of :16.710 was set June 25, 2014 by Flashy Red Corona.

Deanne Davies owns-and-trained Big Hoss Rollin to his first win in six starts this season. The $10,308(US) winner's purse boosted his career mark to $35,201. His overall record stands at (12) 3-3-1. Sazwan Speed Horses bred the Zillas Spin Doctor gelding in Alberta from the Dashing Val mare Sables Val.

William Leech saddled Bitterroot Corona to his second place effort for owner K. Glenn Willis. Bred by Willis and T. Copithorne, the sorrel filly earned $3,895(US) for the effort. Ricardo Moreno was aboard. She is out of the El Mistrial mare Rj Bitterroot Babe.

Graded stakes winner and posttime favorite Cruisinfourabrusin boosted his career total to $66,462 after earning $2,290(US) for third. Janice Sather trains the First Timber gelding for herself and Barry Sather. Ruben Saenz rode the homebred out of Tagulator, by Royal Evening Snow.

Streakin Timber, Augie Meyer, Socket To Em, Pros Rockstar, Kg Guy, Ill Bye The Corona and Pros Kingpin completed the field.
