The Fiscal Cliff Dominates Iowa Double Gold Futurity Final, Bp Cartels Policy Takes Derby

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 29, 2015—The Fiscal Cliff defeated fastest qualifier Woop Dee Doo by one-length Saturday night to win the $187,611 Iowa Double Gold Futurity at Prairie Meadows. Pasito Blue finished a length behind in the show position.

The Fiscal Cliff surged clear and held under jockey Cesar Gomez while completing the 350 yards in :17.515 seconds over a track rated good to record a 95 speed index. The $91,147 winner's purse boosted the Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt's earnings to $137,231.

Trainer Kasey Willis saddled the Iowa-bred colt to his fourth win in five starts for owner/breeder Thomas D. Lepic. Out of the Shazoom mare Signs Zoomer, The Fiscal Cliff also won the Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational at Remington Park in May.

Whoop Dee Doo, who entered the finals off dominating 4˝-length trial win on August 15, rallied strongly under jockey Cristian Esqueda to finish second. Owned-and-trained by Ricardo Martinez, the Good Reason Sa gelding earned $25,825 for second. John Andreni and Vince Genco bred the California-bred stakes winner from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Racy Eyes.

Connie Barnes conditions third place finisher Pasito Blue for owner/breeder William Dale Critton. Stormy Smith was aboard the Colorado-bred to earn $15,191. The gray son of Pappasito is out of Blue Highway, by Society Road.

Completing the field were Candys Little Wagon, Freighttrain V, First Prize Corina, The Charmed Ruler, Eyesa Candy Chick, R O With Good Reason and One Ivory Sign.

Bp Cartels Policy Wins Iowa Double Gold Derby

John Lawless Bp Cartels Policy dug in under jockey Stormy Smith to defeat Fortune In A Wagon by three-quarters in the $66,680 Iowa Double Gold Derby Saturday night at Prairie Meadows. The Big Time finished one-length back in third.

Brent Clay saddled Bp Cartels Policy to his seventh career win and the $26,664 winner's purse boosted his earnings mark to nearly $180,000. The Cartel Success gelding covered the 400 yards in a quick :19.700 clocking to earn a 93-speed index on a track rated good.

Bred in Oklahoma by Bill Price, Bp Cartels Policy is out of the Shazoom mare Marys Southernpolicy.

Fortune In A Wagon races for trainer Randy Hill and owner Terry and Mary Louise Purcell. The stakes winning Pyc Paint Your Wagon filly picked up $11,332 to bring her earnings to nearly $50,000. Jorge Torres had the riding assignment. Don and Regina McDonald bred the black filly in Oklahoma from the Fredericksburg mare Fortune Six Hundred.

Irene Velasquez' The Big Time earned $6,666 for finishing third. Verle Bohner trains the Bigtime Favorite gelding out of Bosanova Baby, by Corona Cartel. David Brown was aboard the multiple stakes-placed Velasquez homebred.

Your Just Jesse, Dashing Tee, Painted Summer, Pymp Your Wagon, Mga Painted Time, Cr Wagon Man and Squeakie Wagon completed the field.
