Eyesa Shoofly Dandy Dominates Second Division In Hialeah Distance Series

HIALEAH, FL—JANUARY 31, 2016—After coming up just short in the Orange Blossom Stakes last month, multiple stakes winner Eyesa Shoofly Dandy easily defeated runner-up Sheila Tequilla by two-lengths in the $27,500 Moonstone Stakes at Hialeah Park Sunday afternoon. Post-time favorite Jmf Shazoomer finished 1˝-lengths back for third.

Ridden by jockey Rodrigo Vallejo, Eyesa Shoofly Dandy broke on top and won with authority as he completed the 660-yard course in :32.105 seconds to win the second leg of the Hialeah Park Distance Series. It was the 8th win in 19 starts for the 5-year-old son of Gold Medal Jess.

Leading trainer Judd Kearl conditions the winner for owners Steve Holt and Curtis Smith. Bred in Oklahoma by Wesley Ann Anglin, Eyesa Shoofly Dandy used the $16,775 Moonstone winner's purse to boost his career total to $83,186? The sorrel gelding is out of the Willie Wicked mare Miss Sound Viking.

Multiple stakes placed Sheila Tequila earned $5,255 for her runner-up finish in the Moonstone Stakes. Kalah Welch saddled the 7-year-old Tinys First Corona daughter for owner HTR Stables LLC. Flat Get It Farm, Inc. bred the bay mare in Texas from the Nelson (TB) mare Nelsons Martini (TB). Omar Reyes was riding.

Coming off a win in the aforementioned Orange Blossom Stakes, the first leg of the Hialeah Park Distance Series on December 28, Jmf Shazoomer was forced to settle for third today. Yoani Abreu trains the stakes winning Shazoom gelding for owner Elite Oilfield Services. Ridden by Raul Ramirez, Jr., Jmf Shazoomer earned $2,750 for his effort. Joe M. Flores bred the sorrel in Texas from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Bingo Beth. He has earned $80,108.

Arbeka Raincloud, Kjr Tocaille, Southern Pass Dash, Beat This Eye Opener, Jess Twice Cash and Red Casino competed the field.

Hialeah Park Posts Solid Attendance, Handle Numbers January 31, Will End Sixth Week Monday

On a “picture post card” South Florida afternoon, Hialeah Park hosted an estimated 2,000 fans for the Sunday festivities. The on-track patrons wagered a total of $52,863 and the all-sources handle totaled out at $448,392.

Hialeah Park closes out the sixth week of its 10-week 2015-16 live racing season with an eight-race card on Monday February 1. First post is at 12:35 PM ET, parking and admission are always free of charge.
