Liberty Lajolla Sa Scores Track Record In Midway Shootout

TUCSON, AZ—MARCH 4, 2017—In a two-horse race on Saturday, Liberty Lajolla Sa posted a new track record after defeating Shoulda Kissed Me by a neck in the $6,000 Midway Shootout (not black-type) at Rillito Park.

Liberty Lajolla Sa, a 5-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Fantastic Corona Jr, stumbled at the start under jockey Mark Jasso but recovered gamely to take the lead in the 250-yard sprint.

The sorrel mare completed the task in a quick :12.686 seconds, a 118-speed index, to establish a new track record. The previous record of :12.925 seconds was set April 4 2015 by Fast Azyoucansee.

Owned-and-trained by Francisco Rodriguez, Liberty La Jolla Sa has compiled an (18) 5-5-2 record. The $4,800 Midway Shootout winners' purse boosted her career mark to $21,325. Gianni Franco Samaja bred the Fantastic Corona Jr mare in California from the Streakin La Jolla mare Babydoll La Jolla.

Runner-up Shoulda Kissed Me is a stakes winning daughter of world champion sire FDD Dynasty owned by Jose Gallardo and conditioned by trainer Tomas Moreno.

Jockey Luis Rene Yescas had the riding assignment aboard the 4-year-old filly who earned $1,200 for the effort. Also, bred in California, Shoulda Kissed Me is out of the Corona Cartel mare Love My Corona. Christian and Ru Anna Singletary bred the earner of nearly $49,000 who won the AQRA President's Open Fall Futurity as a 2-year-old at Turf Paradise.
