LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MARCH 12, 2017—The outstanding Quarter Horse broodmares Jess Sass Me, Bodacious Dream and Summertime Quickie each were represented by a sharp looking juvenile during morning workouts posted on Saturday morning at Los Alamitos.

A total of 43 2-year-old Quarter Horse worked 220 yards from the gate on Saturday morning with Summertime Favorite, a filly by Favorite Cartel out of Summertime Quickie, tying for the morning’s fastest time of :12.30.

Owned by trainer Paul Jones and Thompson Racing LLC, Summertime Favorite worked from the outside as part of a three-horse team that also featured the No Secrets Here filly Youloveme Vista and the FDD Dynasty filly Land Of Ahhs.

Summertime Favorite is a full sister of her connection’s multiple stakes winner Flay, which hit the board in nine of 10 starts last year. Earning over $112,000 last year, Flay won three races including the Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap against older horses and the Dillingham Handicap.

He made the field to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby and was second in the Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes and James Smith Memorial Handicap. Summertime Favorite is also a half-sister to the champion millionaire Foose, the winner of the 2008 Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity and 2009 Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby. She’s also a half sister to Asyouwish, a six-time stakes runner and La Primera Del Ano Derby finalist in 2009.

The mare Summertime Quickie won the La Pacifica Handicap in 2001 and was second in that year’s La Primera Del Ano Derby, fourth in the Los Alamitos Winter Derby and also competed in the PCQHRA Breeders Derby and Southern California Derby. She earned $108,243 in her career.

J. Francisco Diaz’s Casino Baccarat equaled the morning’s fastest work of :12.30 after racing from the inside post for trainer Lindolfo Diaz. Bred by Steve Burns DVM, the colt by Favorite Cartel is out of Baccarat Bar. Baccarat Bar is a half-sister to Dont Pass Bar, the dam of 2015 champion aged mare and multiple Grade 1 winner Quirky and Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist A Bit Quirky.

Jess Sass Me, which recently earned the prestigious AQHA Dam of Distinction Award as the mother of two AQHA racing champions, was represented by the Walk Thru Fire colt Fire And Sass in the morning works. Owned by JGA Racing Stables and bred by Speed LLC, Fire And Sass covered the 220 yards in :12.40 for trainer Juan Aleman.

Jess Sass Me’s two racing champions are the 2016 champion aged mare Sass Me Blue and 2014 champion 2-year-old filly Jess Walking Thru. Sass Me Blue won the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap and raced in the Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos last year.

Jess Walking Thru won the Dash For Cash Futurity and ran third in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity during her championship campaign. Jess Sass Me is also the mother of Jess Being Valiant, the winner of the 2013 A Ransom Handicap. Jess Being Valiant finished second in the Vessels Maturity, Golden State Derby and Town Policy Handicap during his racing career.

Jess Sass Me was a standout on the track as well, as she earned over $112,000 on the track while winning the 2007 Holiday Handicap and running second in that year’s $218,000 La Primera Del Ano Derby and third in the $203,000 Los Alamitos Winter Derby. Jess Sass Me is out of Dutch Masters III’s Kindergarten Futurity winner Sassy Smith.

JGA Racing Stables enjoyed a good morning of works, as the racing operation also had the filly Shangrilalala post an excellent time of :12.40. Bred by Bobby Cox, Shangrilalala is by a Texas-bred by Mr Jess Perry and out of Bodacious Dream. The dam Bodacious Dream ran in the Hobbs America Derby and Sunland Park Winter Derby. She’s the mother of the Bodacious Eagle, a gelding by One Famous Eagle that earned $709,819 during an outstanding racing career.

Bodacious Eagle was a top 2-year-old in 2015 as was third in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity, fourth in the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity and fifth in the Grade 1 All American Futurity. Bodacious Eagle also qualified to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Bodacious Eagle returned with a scintillating sophomore campaign in which he won the Grade 1 Texas Classic Derby and Grade 3 Dash For Cash Derby and ran in the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby. Bodacious Dream is also the mother of Tango In Cash, the runner-up in the 2016 Cypress Handicap and 2015 A Ransom Handicap.

JGA Racing Stables’ Sumokinintheboysroom has posted a :12.40 clocking on Saturday morning. The Arizona-bred colt by Pyc Paint Your Wagon is out of the Grade 3, $426,624 Black Gold Futurity Championship winner Sumokin.

The field to the Black Gold included A Toss Up, a runner that eventually made his way to Southern California and won the Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship. As for the mare Sumokin, she also qualified to the Remington Park Oklahoma Breeders Futurity and the Dash For Cash Futurity and as a broodmare she produced JM Country Man, the winner of the $224,558 La Fiesta Futurity last year.

Denny Boer’s Valiant Night, a colt by Valiant Hero out of Shyann Cash, posted one of the fastest times of :12.40 during the morning works. Sired by Takin On The Cash, Shyann Cash won the 2003 California Breeders Freshman Stakes at Los Alamitos by 1 3/4 lengths and ran third in that year’s Kindergarten Futurity.

Steve Burns also bred the Ed Allred-owned Ynot Me, which posted a 220 time of :12.50. Sired by Favorite Cartel, Ynot Me is out of Ynot Bar, a mare from Fames Easy’s long family of stakes runners. Ynot Bar ran second in the 2005 Governor’s Cup Futurity and seventh in that year’s Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Ynot Bar has been an outstanding producer, as the mother of 2015 Los Alamitos Winter Derby and 2014 John Deere California Juvenile Challenge winner Ynot Walk plus the aforementioned mares Baccarat Bar and Dont Pass Bar.

The Valentin Zamudio-trained Bakarah was another of the standouts on Saturday morning. The Oklahoma-bred colt by Captain Courage worked the 220 yards in :12.50. His mother is Lett Her Zoom, a two-time winner at Los Alamitos from the family of Keystone State QHRA Futurity winner Lady Afton.

J. Francisco Diaz’s Cielo Tres Seis worked :12.50 while working next to the speedy Casino Baccarat. Cielo Tres Seis is a filly by Tres Seis and out of the stakes placed Cloudy Cartel, which ran third in the Corona Kool Handicap and Lassie Handicap in 2005.
