Brother to Pyc Paint Your Wagon Impresses in Los Alamitos Debut

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 15, 2017—Paul Blanchard's Coronated was brilliant in his racing debut, as the full brother to the three-time Grade 1 winner and leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon ($889,581) posted an impressive 1˝ length victory on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Sent off as the heavy favorite at 1-5 odds, Coronated was never seriously challenged and covered the 300 yards in :15.863. The colt by Corona Cartel, out of the top broodmare Dashin Follies by Strawfly Special, entered his debut after posting some eye-catching 220-yard gate works here. He also a brother to G1-placed multiple stakes sire Ivory James.

"His first work was a decent work and it was kind of a learning process," trainer Paul Jones said.

"He came back in his second work and really looked like a monster. He did an easy 12 flat and we were really impressed with that work. Tonight it was his first time under the lights, first time being with other horses, he still wasn't quite as focused, but his talent is so good that he was still able to crush the field. He showed that he's the horse we thought he was. He's a real well bred horse. He's a full brother to Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Paul Blanchard bought him at the All American Sale in Ruidoso last year. We're glad to have him. He's a nice colt. Hopefully he'll have a good future for us. He's a good-looking colt. He's bred well, he looks good, and he has got the talent. He's got the whole package," Jones added.

Paulo Otavio Freire MacEdo bred Coronated. Jones also saddled the runner-up in this race, a 2-year-old colt named Fuel. Fast 7, King Of Appeals, Fast And Royal and She Steals completed the field.
