Seis Menudos Impressive in Back-to-Back New Mexico Stakes Wins

FARMINGTON, NM—MAY 26, 2017—Coming off a win in the RG2 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap at Sunland Park in March, Seis Menudos defeated Major Bites by 1½ lengths Friday afternoon in the $40,000 Jimmy Drake Stakes at SunRay Park. Play Misty Foreme finished a neck back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Jorge Bourdieu, Seis Menudos raced over the 400 yards in :19.326 seconds, a 101-speed index with a 12 mph tailwind. It was the 10th win in 20 starts for the 6-year-old son of Southern Corona and the $24,000 winner's purse boosted his career mark to $184,811.

Michael Megariz, III conditions the sorrel gelding for owner Eloy Humberto Pena. Bred in New Mexico by McCarty, Wood and Southwest Paving and Grading Inc., Seis Menudos is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Uno Menudo.

Major Bites, a 4-year-old son of Jesse James Jr, races for owner Israel Bordier and trainer Cynthia Gonzalez. Mauro Salcedo rode the graded-placed gelding out of Dyna Mo Rime by Major Rime. Bred by Carlos Parez, he earned $8,800for the effort.

Trainer Shae Cox saddled graded stakes winner Play Misty Foreme for owner Robert D. Smith. MJ Farms bred the 4-year-old Jesse James Jr gelding from the Blushing Bug mare Arbor Mist. The $4,000 third-place check boosted last year's Zia Park Derby(RG2) winner's earnings total to $156,054. Alejandro Medellin had the riding assignment.

Carson City Girl, Jess Ruben James and Major Moonflash completed the field. Jess Cruzin On By and Mister Brooks were both scratched.
