Im The Key Rolls To Impressive 550-Yard Win At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 27, 2017—Im The Key made it two consecutive wins this season at Remington Park, scoring his second in a row while going 550 yards on Saturday night.

A winner at 440 yards on May 5, Im The Key was claimed out of that race for $6,250 by Carl Eck of Goddard, Kan. Trained by Jake Eck, Im The Key was elevated to a $10,000-level claiming event on Saturday and stretched out in distance from 440 yards to 550 yards. None of the increases bothered the 8-year-old gelding as he rolled to a sharp 2-1/2 length win with Stormy Smith up.

Im The Key handled the 550 yards in 26.858 seconds over a fast track with Tempting Dashforcash second and Hiclass Deb along for third, another half-length behind the runner-up. Away at 2-1 odds in the wagering, Im The Key paid $6.40 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.40 to show. Tempting Dashforcash paid $13.60 to place and $8 to show. Hiclass Deb paid $5.20 to show. J Boy A was the beaten wagering favorite at 6-5 odds, finishing fifth.

The win is the eighth from 38 lifetime starts for Im The Key, an Oklahoma-bred by Shazoom from the Chicks Beduino mare Royal Classic Chick. He made $8,639 for his Saturday win to run his career earnings to $107,165.

Jockey Jose Vega won three races on Saturday night. His hat trick started with Painted Wine Wagon ($6.80 to win) in race four, followed by Royal Shakin Cartel ($17) in race six and then One Sweet Policy ($9.40) in race eight. The triple gives Vega 16 wins for the season.
