Remington Park Wraps Long Memorial Day Weekend With Four State-Bred Stakes

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 29, 2017—Remington Park hosted four stakes for Oklahoma-breds on Monday's Memorial Day 10-race card in Oklahoma City.

The $61,800 FL Lady Bug Stakes for 2-year-olds at 330 yards; the $61,800 Boyd Morris Memorial Stakes for 3-year-olds and older at 400 yards; the $61,800 Easy Date Stakes for fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and older, at 350 yards; and the $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes for 3-year-olds at 350 yards were contested.

Double Down Bests Stablemate In Boyd Morris Memorial

Double Down, a 4-year-old son of Valiant Hero who finished second in the Corona Cartel Invitational last summer at Ruidoso Downs, got his first stakes win on Monday when he defeated a strong field in the $68,800 Boyd Morris Memorial at Remington Park.

Under a strong drive by ten-time AQHA Racing champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr., Double Down defeated Grade 1 winner and stablemate Valiant Rogue by three-quarters while completing the 400 yards in :19.566 seconds, a 95-speed index.

AQHA Racing champion trainer Judd Kearl saddled the 4-year-old to his second career win from nine starts and the $35,880 winners' purse doubled his career mark to $67,758.

Out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Fast Prize Doll, Double Down races for owner Wendy See. Weetona Stanley is the breeder.

Kearl also saddled runner-up Valiant Rogue, another colt by Valiant Hero, for owner Wyok Ranch LLC. Rodrigo Vallejo rode the gelding out of Azoom Babe, by Azoom. Last year's Grade 1 Rainbow Derby winner picked up $11,960 to boost his career mark to $662,562. Bollenbach Farms is the breeder.

Also, a graded stakes winner, third-place finisher Bye Byefreighttrain races owner/breeder L.P. Frank and is conditioned by trainer Eddie Lee Willis. Benito Baca rode the Freightrain B gelding out of Bye Bye Bygones by Takin On The Cash. He earned $6,578 to bring his bankroll to $237,499.

Away at odds of 7-1 in the betting, Double Down paid $17.80 to win, $7.20 to place and $4 to show. Valiant Rogue was the beaten betting favorite at 6-5 odds, paying $3.40 to place and $2.40 to show. Bye Byefreighttrain was along for third, another three-quarters of a length back, and paid $3 to show.

Completing the field were Streakin Pr, Hearts Ona Hero, Novas Gold and Ferrari James.

The Boyd Morris Memorial is named after the famed Quarter Horse jockey who won the 1964 All American Futurity on Decketta. The Blanchard, Okla. jockey went on to be a prominent trainer of both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds once his successful riding career ended. He was a mainstay from the beginning at Remington Park prior to his passing.

PV Queen Bee Candy Scores FL Lady Bug Stakes Victory

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 29, 2017—PV Queen Bee Candy got her second straight win on Sunday at Remington Park when she defeated Streaks Of Ivory by three-quarter in the $61,800 FL Lady Bug Stakes for 2-year-old Oklahoma-breds. The Only Knockout finished a head back in the show position.

A home bred for Gordon Pevehouse, PV Queen Bee Candy was ridden to victory by jockey Daniel Torres. She completed the 330-yard course in :16.720 seconds, a 91-speed index.

Trainer Clinton Crawford conditions the daughter of third crop sire Cartels Candy Man from the Okey Dokey Dale mare Ima Lazie Too. She has compiled a (3) 2-1-0 record and the $34,080 FL Lady Bug winners' purse brings her bankroll to $46,602.

Streaks Of Ivory was a game second for owners Jon and Brant Barley and trainer John Weghorst. James Flores rode the Ivory James filly out of Streakin Rare by Fredricksburg. Bred by Michael Teel, the multiple stakes-placed filly earned $11,360.

Trainer Jose Ibarra saddled third-place finisher The Only Knockout for owner/breeder Five Puig Racing LLC. Agustin Silva rode the Apollitical Jess filly from the Tres Seis mare Adolph Tres Knockout. The $6,248 third-place check boosted her earnings mark over $100,000.

Overlooked in the betting at 13-1 odds, PV Queen Bee Candy paid $29.20 to win, $10.80 to place and $6.20 to show. Streaks Of Ivory paid $6.80 to place and $4 to show. The Only Knockout returned $4 to show. Ima China Rush, the Oklahoma Futurity winner, came away well but faded late, settling for fifth as the beaten favorite at odds of 7-5.

Dee Favorite Girl, Ima China Rush, Chasin My Desire, Nota Lota Ear, First Of 15, Black Gold Okie and First Dutch completed the field.

FL Lady Bug was a prominent broodmare from the late 1940s for Hall of Fame owners and breeders Marvin and Lela Barnes of Ada, Okla.

First Prize Diamonds Catches Send Me Good Candy In Easy Date

Under jockey a James Flores, First Prize Diamonds ran down Send Me Good Candy to get her head in front at the wire and win the $61,800 Easy Date Stakes Monday afternoon at Remington Park. Multiple graded winner Sudden Separation finished 1˝ lengths back in third.

Saddled by trainer John Weghorst, First Prize Diamonds picked up her 8th win in her last nine starts. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Carters Cartel completed the 350 yards in :17.292 seconds, a 95-speed index.

Owned by Gary Hartstack, First Prize Diamonds entered the Easy Date off a win in the Grade 3 Decketta Stakes on April 1st. The $34,680 winner's purse boosted the bay filly's bankroll to $133,534.

Weetona Stanley bred First Prize Diamonds from the Fly Jess Fly mare First Prize Diamond.

PV Quarter Horse Farms, LLC's homebred Send Me Good Candy earned $11,560 for the second-place effort. Trainer Clinton Crawford conditions the Good Reason Sa filly out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Roll On Candy Wagon. Champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. was aboard the earner of more than $175,700.

Multiple graded winner Sudden Separation was a game third after getting bumped at the break. Larry Sharp saddled the Insperable 6-year-old for owner/breeder Duane Murphy. Berkley Packer was aboard the filly out of Okie Dokey Annie by Okey Dokey Dale. She picked up $6,358 to bring her mark to over, $260,000.

The heavy betting favorite at 1-2 odds, First Prize Diamonds paid $3 to win, $2.40 to place and $2.10 to show. Send Me Good Candy paid $4.20 to place and $2.80 to show. Sudden Separation paid $2.60 to show.

Shaken Pappasito, Jess A Diva Chick, Phoebesdynasty, Mia Kine, Another Desire and Southern Lulu completed the field.

The Easy Date Stakes is named after the 1974 All American Futurity winner and 1975 American Quarter Horse World Champion who was bred, owned and trained by Walter Merrick of Sayre, Okla.

Bout Tree Fiddy Steps Up In Jack Brooks Stakes

Last year's Rocky Mountain Futurity winner returned to the winner's circle on Monday when he defeated V Power by half-a-length in the $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes for Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds at Remington Park. Carters Thunder finished a neck back in the show position.

Ridden by jockey Larry Payne, Bout Tree Fiddy completed the 350 yards in :17.724 seconds to pick up the winner's purse of $29,784.

Trainer Patrick Swan saddled the multiple stakes winning son of Ivory James for himself and Carry "Rusty" Allred. The homebred is out of Hollie Jollie by Fredricksburg. Bout Tree Fiddy entered the race off a fourth-place effort in the Mr Master Bug Handicap on April 23. He has compiled an (11) 3-2-2 record and earned $116,658.

Saddled by trainer Dustin Cox, V Power was second best for owner CoCoMo Racing LLC. G.R. Carter, Jr. rode the Valiant Hero 3-year-old bred by Weetona Stanley and W.E, Smith. Out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Ferarri First Prize, V Power earned $9,928 to boost his earnings total to $277,267.

Carters Thunder, a Carters Cartel gelding, races for owners Juan Oropeza and Cuadra Ladrilleros Ltd Co. Stuart Steele trains with Jesus Salazar getting the riding assignment. Bred by R.D. Hubbard, from the Strawfly Special mare Lady Bonafide, Carters Thunder earned $5,461 for his third-place effort.

Away at 14-1 odds, Bout Tree Fiddy paid $30.40 to win, $12 to place and $7.20 to show. V Power returned $5.40 to place and $3 to show. Carters Thunder paid $5.60 to show.

Dark Tint, Dancing Capo Decapi, Barue, Senator Teller, As And Js and B Double U completed the field.

The Jack Brooks Stakes is named in honor of the American Quarter Horse racing legend and Hall of Famer trainer from Blanchard, Okla. He won the top race in the sport, the All American Futurity, a record eight times before retiring in 2007. Brooks and his wife Wynona were on hand to present the stakes trophy to the winning connections.
