OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JUNE 3, 2017—Zoomin Effortlessly and 2016 American Quarter Horse Association World Champion Jessies First Down have developed quite the rivalry in their career and it continued Saturday night in the Grade 1, $250,252 Remington Park Championship.

The pair hooked up just before the halfway point of the 440-yards to slug it out all the way to a head-bobbing finish that went to Zoomin Effortlessly by a head.

Owned by Telesforo Perrett of Houston and trained by Edelmiro Carrizales, Zoomin Effortlessly was ridden by Santos Carrizales. The 6-year-old gelding crossed the finish line first for the second straight year in the Remington Park Championship. However, he was disqualified from the victory a year ago due to failing a post-race competition test.

An Invitational race, the Remington Park Championship field had to answer a more stringent protocol in order to be eligible for the race this year and the seven that started all met those qualifications.

Jessies First Down had beaten Zoomin Effortlessly twice at the end of 2016 in the $150,000 Zia Park Handicap in Hobbs, N.M. in November, and then in the $350,000 Championship at Sunland Park in December. Santos Carrizales expected another tough battle with Jessies First Down throughout the Remington Park Championship.

"(Jessie First Down) had me beat, easy, a neck or a head. I was just waiting because I know (Zoomin Effortlessy) has a big kick. At the end of the year in New Mexico, he kind of got tired on us. But this year, I knew he was fit and he was going to come and run good at 440 yards."

Zoomin Effortlessly hit the finish in 21.105 seconds over a fast track, a head in front of Jessies First Down. The rivals battled in their own separate race as they were 1-1/2 lengths ahead of AJs High when they hit the finish. AJs High held third after a brilliant start but he simply had no answer for the top two.

The public’s choice in the wagering at even-money, Zoomin Effortlessly paid $4.20 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Jessies First Down was just a click higher in the win odds while paying $2.40 to place and $2.20 to show. AJs High returned $3 to show.

The Remington Park Championship is the 16th career win for Zoomin Effortlessly from 27 attempts. Bred in Texas by Tommy Charbula, Zoomin Effortlessly is by Zoomin For Bux from the Royal Quick Dash mare Royal Quick Affair. The winner’s share of the Remington Park Championship is $149,892 for Zoomin Effortlessly, who now has earned $839,567.

Zoomin Effortlessly has now earned a berth into the prestigious Champion of Champions race at Los Alamitos in southern California in December. The race is the marquee event for older American Quarter Horses.

Reigning world champion Jessies First Down picked up $49,964 for his second-place effort. Champion trainer Judd Kearl conditions the FDD Dynasty 6-year-old for owner/breeder Ted Abrams. Rodrigo Vallejo was aboard the $682,024 multiple grade 1 stakes winner from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jess A Classy Lassy.

Also, a multiple grade 1 winner, Ajs High races for owner/breeder Michael Teel and trainer Charley Hunt. Stormy Smith was aboard the Apollitical Jess 5-year-old out of Regally Rare by Rare Form. The Oklahoma-bred pocketed $27,678 to boost his earnings total to $755,702.

Big Lew, VF Red Surprise, Rockin Disco and Stevie B First Cash rounded out the field of seven.

Live horse racing is now on hiatus at Remington Park until the 2017 Thoroughbred Season which runs Aug. 25 thru Dec. 17.
