OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JUNE 3, 2017—Bully Pulpit has evidently clued in about his role in the racing game, refusing to lose. Saturday night, he won his third straight race of the Remington Park season and his second futurity, taking the Grade1, $200,000 Speedhorse Graham Futurity for Paints and Appaloosas. Bully Pulpit gained the victory with a come-from-behind effort.

Owned by Dan and Kaye Jones, of Kemp, Texas and trained by Matt Whitekiller, Bully Pulpit was ridden by Cody Smith. Oklahoma Paint/Appaloosa Futurity winner Hotwiredotcom had a clear start and battled for the front early in the 350-yard event, holding the advantage until the final 100 yards. At that point, Bully Pulpit began to rally, splitting rivals then going on to win by a half-length in 17.790 seconds over a fast track.

Bully Pulpit failed to win his first career race until scoring the American Paint Classic Futurity in late April. Smith notes the difficulty in getting the 2-year-old gelding to get into his racing stride tonight and in his career.

"We got away a little sluggish but that left us a hole. I only whipped him one time left-handed and he just exploded when I did," Smith said about the Speedhorse Graham effort. "People don’t realize how much work was done to get this horse to this point. He was wild, I’m not going to lie."

Bully Pulpit finished a half-length ahead of Hotwiredotcom for the victory with Dashin Turnpike in third, three-quarters of a length from the winner. Hang Ten, Ojo Por Ojo, PHQ Goodbye Larry, I Like It Alota and Crosswired completed the order of finish in the eight-horse field for the Speedhorse Graham Futurity.

Away at 2-1 odds, Bully Pulpit paid $6.60 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.40 to show. Hotwiredotcom was the beaten, heavy wagering favorite at 4-5 odds, paying $2.60 to place and $2.20 to show. Dashin Turnpike paid $4 to show.

Bully Pulpit adds the Speedhorse Graham Futurity to his resume that already includes victory in the American Paint Classic Futurity in April at Remington Park. Bred in Oklahoma by Chuck Bowlan, Bully Pulpit is a 2-year-old Paint gelding by CRM Livewire from the Apollo (tb) mare Judys Apollo. A winner of three races from five starts, the Speedhorse Graham triumph was worth $77,000 to run his career total to $125,143.

The win with Bully Pulpit is the first in the Speedhorse Graham Futurity for owners Dan and Kaye Jones. Whitekilller and Smith teamed up for their third victory in the race. They also won with I Kick (2009) and Painted Turnpike (2015).

Live horse racing is now on hiatus at Remington Park until the 2017 Thoroughbred Season which runs Aug. 25 thru Dec. 17.
