Kas Famous Steps Up In TQHA Sires' Cup Derby

SELMA, TX—JULY 1, 2017—Coming off a second-place effort in the June 17th trials Kas Famous flew late under jockey Jorge Linares to catch fastest qualifier Zoomin N Celebrating by a head in the $55,190 TQHA Sires' Cup Derby Saturday night at Retama Park.

A homebred racing for owner/breeder Francisco Javier Garza, Kas Famous completed the 400 yards in :20.204 seconds, a 91 speed index into a 15 mph headwind.

Trainer Jose Sanchez saddled the son of leading sire One Famous Eagle from the Make It Anywhere mare Beaukas. The $22,076 winners' purse boosted the gelding's earnings total to $28,551.

Zoomin N Celebrating jumped to an early lead but the fastest qualifier could not hold on and had to settle for the $11,038 second-place payday. Judd Kearl saddled the daughter of Azoom for owners Esmeralda and Chad Peck. Noe Villatoro rode the sorrel filly out of Feefees Celebrating by Takin On The Cash. Two races back Zoomin N Celebrating was second in the Sam Houston Distaff.

Eusevio Huitron's owned-and-trained Rc The Duke was a length back to pick up the $5,519 show check. RC Running Horses bred the son of Jodys Money Pop in Texas from the Calyx mare Movinstraighttoglory. Nestor Duran had the riding call.

Boknaai Joe, Bigtime Celebration, Deala Quick Game, Thrones, Shakeemwhileyoucan and Hotscotch N Courage completed the field. Desdemona Rambler was scratched.
