Ramblin On in Style Wins April Lafountain North Dakota Grass Roots Derby at Chippewa

BELCOURT, ND—JULY 2, 2017—A trio of Ima Ramblin On fillies finished on top in the $7,760 April Lafountain North Dakota Grass Roots Derby (not black type) Sunday at Chippewa Downs, but it was Ramblin On in Style who won in style as the post-time favorite.

Jockey Jeramie Fennell guided the gray filly home in 18.290 to earn an 87 speed index and defeated the second-place finisher by half a length.

Ramblin On in Style ($5.00) is owned by Kevin Gefroh and is trained by Mike Wolf. She was bred in North Dakota by Randal Schwartz, out of the Ocean Runaway mare Runaway in Style. Schwartz bred the top three finishers of the card’s feature Quarter Horse event.

This was the fourth career win for the filly, who finished second in her debut at Remington Park before moving north last summer. She is undefeated at Chippewa and is no worse than fourth in six starts this year.

Little Wing and jockey Zachary Bacon finished second, half a length behind Ramblin On in Style and a neck in front of First Heartbreak. Little Wing is trained by Jim Fleming for owner Lloyd Counts, Jr. The Schwartz-bred filly is out of An Eye Full by Mr Eye Opener.

Completing the trifecta of Ima Ramblin On progeny was First Heartbreak. The filly is owned by Ramsey Delorme and is trained by Herman Fennell, Jr. Jockey Cody Desjarlais had the call. First Heartbreak is out of Two Thirty Eight, by Lead the Field.

Also competing in the April Lafountain North Dakota Grass Roots Derby were Ramblin Rock On, Whiskey Memories, Miss Jess Cando It, Shes Mitey Easy Cash and Cos I Can.
