Sandy Downs Hosts Idaho Cup Futurity and Firecracker Frolic Trials on Fourth of July Card

GRANTS PASS, OR—JULY 4, 2017—Sandy Downs' Holiday Race card today included two sets of trials for the $19,125 IQHA Idaho Cup Futurity and the$18,000 Firecracker Maiden Frolic. Finals for both races will be contested on Saturday, July 22nd.

IQHA Idaho Cup Futurity Trials

The Bossgirl, a daughter of first crop sire Class Jump, broke her maiden Tuesday when she defeated Jl Easy Bug by neck in the first of two trials for the IQHA Idaho Cup Futurity, for accredited 2-year-olds foaled in Idaho.

Saddled by leading trainer Monty Arrossa, and ridden by jockey Nakia Ramirez, The Bossgirl completed the 350 yards in :18.017 seconds, a 90-speed index, to set the top qualifying mark.

A-Arrow Ranch owns the bay filly out of Fanny B by Dash Ta Fame. Bred by Shannon Renee Akerstrom, The Bossgirl has compiled a (4) 1-2-0 record this season.

The three fastest qualifiers came from the first trial.

In the second trial Make A Twister got up at the wire to remain undefeated at 3-for-3 for owner/breeder XG Bar Racing LLC. Riley Moosman trains the Maknmoves filly out of Proudest Last Effort by Proudest Effort.

Make A Twister broke her maiden at Weber Downs in May before getting her second win in the Ed Giles Futurity trials at Laurel Brown in her last start.

Firecracker Maiden Frolic Trials

Two trials were contested for the Firecracker Maiden Frolic for 3-year-olds and up who were maidens as April 1st.

It’s a good thing because Dashing Executive scored her second career win with an impressive three-quarter-length win over Jess A Lil Fishy to get the top qualifying time of :17.664 seconds, a 98-speed index.

Mark Hanson conditions the First Down Dash filly who broke her maiden in the Pocatello Downs Maiden Challenge on May 29th. Owned by Hanson Racing LLC and Rob Evans, the Utah-bred 3-year-old has compiled (7) 2-1-1 record and banked $9,933. Francisco Rubio had the riding call.

Lara Skelley's Country Fly Boy was a neck winner in the opening trial to get the second fastest time of :17.679 seconds, a 97-speed index. David W. Greene trains the 8-year-old son of champion Country Chicks Man from the Make It Anywhere mare Make It Fly.

Larry Collins bred the lightly raced sorrel gelding who broke his maiden in his last start (June 4) at the Jerome Fair. The two-time winner from four starts has earned $1,792. Cordarelton Benn was up.
