Graceful Eagle Gets New Track Record In Gillespie's Simulcast Services Stakes

FREDRICKSBURG, TX—AUGUST 26, 2017—Multiple stakes winner Graceful Eagle got up at the wire to defeat Red Corona Warrior by a head in the $17,0000 Gillespie's Simulcast Services Stakes Saturday afternoon at the Gillespie County Fairground.

Ridden by jockey Eddie Sanchez, Graceful Eagle completed the 330-yard task over a rainy-muddy racetrack in a quick :16.247 clocking, setting a new track record and earning a 118-speed index. Courtesy remnants of "Hurricane Harvey", that hit the South Texas coast late Friday night, the daughter of leading sire One Famous Eagle had a 22-mph tailwind.

The previous record of :16.311 seconds was set August 27, 2016 by the aforementioned Red Corona Warrior, who posted a :16.270 clocking (117 speed index) while finishing second in today's Simulcast Services Stakes.

Facing older horses for the first time in her career, Graceful Eagle was saddled by trainer Eusevio Huitron. Florentino Leon owns the bay filly out of Duplicate Check by Corona Cartel.

Winner of last year's Texas Classic Juvenile at Lone Star Park, she has compiled a (10) 5-2-1 record. Today's $10,200 winners' purse boosted her career total to $97,085. Thomas Bradbury bred Graceful Eagle in Colorado.

Multiple stakes winner Red Corona Warrior was saddled by Josue Ponce and ridden by Jose Ivan Martinez. Almada Racing owns the Coronas Fast Dash 5-year-old out of Prairie War Princess by Dashin Is Easy. Bred by Terrazas Family, the sorrel gelding earned $3,400 to bring his bankroll total to $177,277.

Ten For Ten LLC's Tellem Im Pumped finished a neck back in the blanket finish to pick up $1,700 for third. Also, trained by Huitron, the 3-year-old Stoli gelding was ridden by jockey Nestor Duran. Jim and Natalie Montgomery bred the earner of $154,325.

Completing the field were A Kool Secret, Tellerreyematthebar, Im A Moon Quest, Cf Humbuckin and Jo Chrome. Gyr Jammer and Thriving Ivory were both scratched.
