Jess A Lil Fishy Top Qualifier to Elko Quarter Horse Derby

ELKO, NV—AUGUST 27, 2017—Jess A Lil Fishy defeated Oh La by a head in the second of two trials Sunday for the Elko Quarter Horse Derby to set the top qualifying mark.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Elko County Fairground on Monday, September 4 to vie for the winners' share of a $7,500 purse going 400 yards.

Ridden by jockey Never Marin, Jess A Lil Fishy completed the 400 yards in :20.072 seconds to set the top qualifying time and earn a 95-speed index.

Trainer Fredy Olmos saddled the daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess to her fourth career win for owner Joe Ward.

Dream Chaser Farm bred the by filly in Ontario, Canada from the Fishers Dash mare Lil Fishy. She has compiled a (13) 4-3-1 record and banked $12,559.

In the opening trial, Ktmakinataxreturn held off Kono by a nose to get the third fastest time of :20.088 seconds, a 93-speed index. Jesus Canales had the riding call for trainer Jere Brinkerhoff.

Brinkerhoff co-owns the daughter of multiple stakes sire Maknmoves with Kim and Les Sweeting. Bred by Korry and Candus Trapp, from the Lanes Leinster mare Lanella, Ktmakinataxreturn has compiled a (9) 2-1-3 record and earned $7,410.
