Tarzanito Has Winning Sophomore Debut In Sgt Pepper Feature

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—AUGUST 26, 2017—A1A Racing LLC’s Tarzanito, the PCQHRA 2-year-old colt of the year last year, made his sophomore debut a winning one after holding off the game stakes winner Hoose Coose by a head to win the $25,000 Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap by a head on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Now trained by Yanet Rodriguez and ridden by Eddie Garcia, this track’s all-time leading jockey in Quarter Horse wins and stakes wins, Tarzanito broke a tad behind his rivals in the 350-yard dash before finishing strongly to catch and move past Hoose Coose and Katella Deli, who ended up in fourth. Well Good also ended strongly to run third.

For Garcia, the Sgt Pepper Feature represented his 149th career Quarter Horse stakes victory at the Orange County oval. For Tarzanito, it was his first career stakes win following a strong freshman season in which he ran second in the Grade 1, $1,016,000 Golden State Million Futurity last year, while winning four of his six starts as a freshman.

The colt by Favorite Cartel was making his first start since winning his trial to the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on November 20. Bred by Patricia Visscher, Tarzanito covered the distance in :17.619. He earned $13,750 for the win to take his lifetime bankroll to $196,108. He’s now won five of seven career outings.

Tarzanito is eligible to compete in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby trials on October 21.

J. Francisco Diaz’s Hoose Coose, an easy winner in the 550-Yard Sophomore Stakes on July 30, earned $5,625 for his second place finish. Jesus Rios Ayala piloted the Foose gelding for trainer Lindolfo Diaz.

Ed Allred’s Well Good earned $3,125 for running third.

Katella Deli, Bannister, Threemakesone, and Thats Imperial completed the fied.
