Ghost Pines, Miromar Set Top Mark in Picov Derby Trials

AJAX, ONT—SEPTEMBER 3, 2017—Coming off a win in the Ontario Sires' Stakes Derby on July 16, Ghost Pines defeated Hickerson by a neck to tie for the top qualifying mark in the Picov Derby trials on Sunday at Ajax Dows.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Ontario racetrack on Monday, September 18th to vie for the winner's share of a $70,000-added purse over 400 yards.

Jockey Cory Spataro guided Ghost Pines to a wire-to-wire win in :20.190 seconds to earn a 94-speed index in the opening trial.

Trainer Michelle Woodley conditions the Fire Fighter filly for owner/breeder Gary McNichol. Out of the Tres Seis mare Quick Six Lady, the gray filly has compiled a (5) 3-2-0 record and banked $32,345.

Miromar, an Oklahoma-bred daughter of Ivory James racing for GFR Equine Services, tied for the fastest time in the final trial following a head win over Ls Prince.

In a late rush, under jockey Ramiro Castilo, Miromar also clocked a :20.190 time for 400 yards. The gelding was the first of three qualifiers saddled by trainer Jason Pascoe.

Bobby D. Cox bred Miromar from the Azoom mare Azoomin With Jessie. The brown gelding has won five of his 10 starts and earned $25,415.
