RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—SEPTEMBER 4, 2017—Trainer James Pagett II topped the incredible day he had on Sunday just 24 hours later when he won the Grade 1, $3-million All American Futurity with Fly Baby Fly after winning the $200,000 All American Juvenile with Jesse Lane earlier on the program before 24,460 fans.

The 440-yard All American Futurity has the largest purse of any two-year-old race in North America.

On Saturday, Padgett won the $1,365,908 All American Derby with Hold Air Hostage and the Grade 1, $200,000 All American Gold Cup with Jessies First Down. Jose Amador Alvarez rode Fly Baby Fly while Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo was aboard Hold Air Hostage and Jessies First Down.

New Mexico-bred Bigg Daddy, owned by Too For Too, was second by a neck over Hotstepper.

The Alvarez-ridden Fly Baby Fly got a clean start, however was not with the leaders. She moved into contention within the first 150 yards and then took charge of the race by the halfway mark. The daughter of One Famous Eagle and champion Higher Fire, an earner of $1.3 million, then showed she was much the best with the one-and-one-half length score.

"The filly always has trouble with the break and it takes a little while to start her running," said Alvarez. "But today she put everything together. We knew she could run 440 and she proved it today. She got the lead, probably, at about 250 yards and then just pulled away."

Owned by the Fly Baby Fly Partnership, Fly Baby Fly was a $180,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase and her half-brother, sired by Corona Cartel, topped this year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale on a bid of $320,000.

Overlooked at 11-1 odds, Fly Baby Fly should have garnered more respect. She was fourth in the Grade 1, $1-million Rainbow Futurity two starts ago and then won her All American Futurity trial by one length as the 2-5 favorite.

Bred by Julianna Hawn Holt, she is out of the AQHA Racing Champion filly Higher Fire by Walk Thru Fire.

Runner-up Bigg Daddy was the 8-5 favorite in the All American Futurity after a sensational two-and-three-quarter-length trial victory. His :21.611 trial time was good for the fastest time on the second of two days of trials.

"My horse beat the doors open, I couldn’t have dreamed that he could have left the gate any better and he ran a really good strong race," said jockey G.R. Carter Jr. "Give Fly Baby Fly credit; she just run me down and beat me. I’m real proud of my horse because he ran really well."

Grades stakes winner Bigg Daddy was bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms. The son of leading second-crop sire Big Daddy Cartel is out of AQHA Racing champion mare Alice K White by First Down Dash. He has compiled an (8) 4-2-1 record and the $450,000 All American check boosted his career total to $661,418.

Owned by R.D. Hubbard, Johnny Cope, Ray Willis and Butch Southway, Hotstepper qualified for the Rainbow Futurity and came back and won his All American Futurity trial by two lengths as the 7-10 favorite. The One Famous Eagle-sired gelding was purchased for $63,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.

The Sleepy Gilbreath-trained Hotstepper has two wins and has qualified for two seven-figure futurities from five starts. He was ridden by Cody Jensen.

Hotstepper is a son of leading sire One Famous Eagle from the Tres Seis mare Pandorum. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP is the breeder. He picked up $255,000 in the All American to raise his earnings to $290,000.

Hes Limitless, Mr Secret Glory, Uptown Dynasty, Shakem Bye Perry, Hawkeye, Dash For Stone and Belive Me Irene completed the field.

Jesse Lane Wins All American Juvenile

In the All American Juvenile, Jesse Lane started from the eighth post position and had a wide path to the finish line. He used that path by swerving out and then in and then out again on his way to the three-quarter-length score. While he did not make a straight dash to the finish line, he never moved in or out more than one lane.

Jesse Lane, a gelding by Jesse James Jr and the strong producer Champagne Lane, was timed in :21.497 for the 440 yards.

My Southern Dynasty was second by one-half length over One Quick Wagon.

The MJ Farms’ homebred Jesse Lane raced to his second career victory and first stakes win from six starts.

Jesse Lane was second in the $371,000 Zia Futurity against fellow New Mexico-breds and was then second to All American Futurity qualifier Hes Limitless in their All American Futurity trial. Jesse Lane was the 7-5 favorite in that All American Futurity trial.

A homebred is out of the Lanes Leinster mare Champagne Lane. The $84,000 Juvenile winner's purse boosted his career mark to $154,452.

Jockey Rodrigo Vallejo was board for Padgett.

Dunn Ranch’s runner-up My Southern Dynasty, a son of Fdd Dynasty, qualified for the $1-million Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity for trainer Trey Wood, who was the leading quarter horse trainer this summer at Ruidoso Downs. He was third in his two starts coming into the Juvenile.

Bred in Oklahoma by Bill Price, from the Southern Cartel mare Suothern Fling, My Southern Dynasty earned $36,000 for the effort.

Leading rider Ricky Rameriz was aboard My Southern Dynasty.

Padgett also trained third-place finisher One Quick Wagon, owned by Bennie and Teresa Jeter. The Pyc Paint Your Wagon-sired gelding had won three of his four starts, including his All American Futurity trial.

Melissa Ann Miller bred the gelding in Texas from the Royal Quick Dash mare One Quick Cookie. He picked up $20,000 for the effort.

Jose Amador Alvarez rode One Quick Wagon.

He Be Flashy, Overhauling, Tough Dynast 123, Papaws Paint, Jessica Alexandra, Trace Dynasty and Time To Jazz completed the field.
