ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 8, 2017—The field was set Friday evening for the September 23, $100,000-added New Mexico State Fair Futurity (RG3) for state-bred 2-year-old Quarter Horses.

Osbaldo Blue Diamond, a homebred daughter of Osbaldo racing for Hubaldo Solis of Peralta, New Mexico, and the fastest qualifier, won the first of six 400 yard trials by 1-1/4 lengths in :19.765. Luis Apodaca rode the gray filly for trainer Javier Roman Jr.

Osbaldo Blue Diamond has won two of eight starts and has banked $43,334, and her resume includes a second-place finish, three-quarters of a length behind winner WDC Woody B Fast, in the May 14, $110,213 New Mexico Breeders’ Futurity (RG3), the richest race at the 2017 SunRay Park meet in Farmington.

The third heat produced four finalists, including second-fastest qualifier Riverside Flash by leading sire First Moonflash.

Trainer Wesley T. Giles saddled the New Mexico homebred for owner/breeder Ivey Cattle Company. Adrian Ramos rode Riverside Flash to her second in four starts. Out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Riverside Eye Opener, the sorrel filly was a finalist in the RG1 Zia Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in July. She has earned $24,821.

First Moonflash sired three finalists and Jesse James Jr had two qualifiers.

Live racing resumes at Albuquerque Downs with a 10-race card on Saturday, beginning at 1:30 p.m. (MDT). Saturday’s program features four 400-yard La Fiesta Quarter Horse Futurity trials and two 6-furlong New Mexico State Fair Thoroughbred Futurity (R) trials.
