Grade 3 Winner Political Attraction Dominates Black Gold 350 Futurity Championship Trials

CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 9, 2017—Coming off a win in the Grade 3 $214,000 Speedhorse Futurity on July 29, Political Attraction rolled to a three-length win Saturday at Will Rogers Downs to post the fastest qualifying time for the Black Gold 350 Futurity Championship(RG3).

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from 10 trial races contested on Will Rogers Downs opening day of the fall Quarter Horse meet, will return to the Northeastern Oklahoma racetrack on Sunday, September 24th to vie for the winner's share of a $282,552 purse.

Another $14,771 in Stallion Awards will also be paid on the first of two Black Gold Futurity Championship races this fall at Will Rogers.

Ridden by jockey James Flores, Political Attraction completed the 350-yard course in :17.608 seconds, a 94-speed index. John Weghorst saddled the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr.

After finishing fifth in the $1,002,500 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG2) and third in the Easy Jet Stakes (G3) at Remington Park, Political Attraction broke his maiden in the Speedhorse Futurity trials on July 15th. He returned two-weeks later to win the final by 1-½ lengths.

A $10,000 Heritage Place September Yearling graduate, Political Attraction was bred in Oklahoma by Ron Lyles from the Separatist mare Gunsight Peak. He has compiled a (6) 3-1-1 record and banked nearly $160,000.

Bad Neighbor, fastest qualifier then fourth in the Speedhorse Futurity(G3) in July, was an impressive 3-¼ length winner in the seventh trial to get the second fastest qualifying time of :17.620 seconds.

Ramon Mendoza conditions the son of Country Chicks Man for owner Mauro Mendoza. Daniel Torres rode the multiple stakes-finalist out of The Kooch by First N Kool. Dallas Pryor is the breeder.

Apollitical Jess was the leading sire with three finalists. Trainers Manuel Almanza, Jr. and Eddie D. Willis qualified two finalists each.
