A Cartel Hustle Gets New Track Record in Lee Ward Memorial

BLACKFOOT, ID—SEPTEMBER 9, 2017—Multiple stakes winner A Cartel Hustle set a new track record Saturday when he won the $6,750 Lee Ward Memorial (not black type) at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot.

Under jockey Nikeela Black, A Cartel Hustle completed the 300 yards in :15.050 seconds, a 114 speed index, to defeat Be Our Honor by three-quarters.

The previous record of :15.203 seconds was set September 6, 2014 by Classic Blush.

Trainer Mark Hanson saddled the son of leading third crop sire Favorite Cartel to his sixth win in 12 starts for owners' RTM Stables LLC, Larry Chapple and Dick Wasia. Today's $3,713 winners' purse boosted the gelding's bankroll to $40,604.

Chapple, Wasia and J. Hanson bred the Favorite Cartel in Idaho from the Feature Mr Jess mare Mothers Gift.

Be Our Honor, a son of Br Proudest Victory racing for owner/trainer Joey Atwood picked up $1,688 for second. Nakia Ramirez had the riding assignment. William Curtis bred Be Our Honor from the With Honors mare Doll With Honors.

Mr Bundy, a 6-year-old Spittin Fire horse out of Fl Gator Style by Dazzle Berry, finished three-quarters back in third for owner/trainer Kevin Williams. Dallas Erickson was aboard the Roy Bundy Utah-bred. He earned $1,012.

Str Cartel Hot Candy and St Stick M Up completed the field.

EISF Maiden Frolic

Merrys Cartel, a son of Favorite Cartel, racing for owner Pablo Diaz won the $4,000 Eastern Idaho State Fair Maiden Frolic. Jesus Valenzuela rode the gelding to a three-quarter length win over All Get Out to take home the winner's purse of $2,200.

Trained by L. Uriel Arreola the California-bred covered the 350 yards in :17.625 seconds, a 97 speed index. Steve Burns and Carroll Hooper bred the gelding from Merrys Dolly by The Adamas.

Dashing Executive, Awesomer and Royalprincessfloydet completed the field.

Miss Quick Stakes

Kylie Schoonover rode Sparklin Cartel to a half-length win over Rtm Moonshine in the $4,000 Miss Quick Stakes (not back type) on Saturday in Blackfoot.

The 4-year-old The Louisiana Cartel filly completed the 350 yards in :17.469 seconds, a 102 speed index. Garth Blattner saddled the brown filly to her fifth career win in 21 starts for owners Les and Darla Barlow.

Les Barlow and Gary Messenger bred Sparklin Cartel from the First Wrangler mare Sing Of Pride.

La Formenta finished third followed by Cachocolatepie and Jessa Jet.
