ROCKY VIEW COUNTY, ALB—OCTOBER 21, 2017—Ridden by jockey Ricardo Moreno, True Copy surged in the final yards to defeat Honeys Pop A Tac in the $60,372(US) Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity Saturday afternoon at Century Downs. Knotty Knita finished a neck back in third.
Trainer William Leech saddled True Copy to her fifth win six starts for owner Charles G. Stojan. The gray filly completed the 400 yards in :20.042 seconds, a 103-speed index into an 8-mph crosswind.
Bred in California by Edward C. Allred, the daughter of multiple stakes sire Tr Dasher picked up $27,167(US) to roll her earnings total to $38,591. She also won the Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity earlier this year at Grande Prairie. True Copy is out of the Separatist mare Realistically.

Runner-up Honeys Pop A Tac races for owner 4 B Stables and trainer Buckey Stockwell. Jose Rocha rode the gelded son of multiple stakes sire Tac It Like A Man out of the Gol mare Gols Honey Pop. Bred in Oklahoma by Gary Kurz, Honeys Pop A Tac picked up $12.074 for the effort.
Knotty Knita, a homebred daughter of leading Canadian sire First Timber, drifted in under jockey J.B. Botello. Owned-bred and trained by Wesley T. Oulton the sorrel filly is out of Ima Jess A Streaker by Streakin La Jolla. The $7,244(US) payday nearly doubled the multiple stakes-placed filly's earnings total to $13,564.
First Prize Cruise, Bringonthewave, Stripsteak, Atomic Blondie and Stole An Encore completed the field.
Multiple stakes winner Bringonthewave lacked kick need under jockey Ramiro Castillo, suffering his first career loss as the heavy posttime favorite.
