Jazzy Icon Breaks Maiden In AQRA President's Open Fall Futurity

PHOENIX, AZ—OCTOBER 29, 2017—Jazzy Icon put in a game effort under jockey Jorge Bourdieu to defeat fastest qualifier and posttime favorite Dominate This by three-quarters in the $46,740 AQRA President's Open Fall Futurity at Turf Paradise Sunday afternoon. Skinny Kyni finished another three-quarters back for third.

Saddled by trainer Matthew Fales, Jazzy Icon rolled over the 350 yards in :17.816 seconds, a 92-speed index into a 10-mph crosswind. It was the first win five career starts for the Martha Wells homebred son of leading second-crop sire Texas Icon.

Out of the Bono Jazz mare Icebreaker, Jazzy Icon has compiled a (5) 1-1-2 record and used the President's winner's purse of $23,370 to boost his total earnings mark to $26,116.

The AQRA President's Open Fall Futurity was the second stakes win of the day for Texas Icon. The son of leading sire Corona Cartel also sired the 1-2 finishers in the AQRA Futurity (see releated story) on Sunday.

Runner-up Dominate This broke in and bumped, under jockey Martin Osuna, to suffer his first loss in three career starts. Jose Badilla, Sr. conditions the son of Dominyun for owners Angel Hernandez and Jorge Herrera. Brenda Reiswig bred the sorrel gelding in Oklahoma from the Valiant Hero mare Valiant Red Vixen. He earned $9,348 for the effort.

A and C Racing and Roping's homebred Skinny Kyni is trained by Tyler Gibbs and ridden by jockey Eddie Garcia. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Winners Version was bred in Utah from the Streakin La Jolla mare Miss Mischievous. She picked up $4,674 for third.

Champion Winner, Red Beer, Winners Runaway, Nicos Favoritecartel, El Remmy, Arrow Of Cupid and Dublin Dynamite completed the field.
