Portland Meadows hosted two Baxter Andruss Futurity trials for Oregon-Bred 2-year-olds on Sunday's race card.

CM Boom Shakalaka Fastest Qualifier to Baxter Andruss Futurity

PORTLAND, OR—NOVEMBER 26, 2017— CM Boom Shakalaka turned in the best time of the Baxter Andruss Futurity trials with a 20:11 over the sloppy track at 400 yards at Portland Meadows Sunday afternoon.

Jockey Luis Gonzalez had the riding call for trainer Nick Lowe and 0wner Randy Dickerson. The young son of multiple stakes sire Carters Cartel posted a solid finish to earn the day’s fastest clocking.

The Oregon homebred, out of Mi Fames A Dandy by Dash Ta Fame, earned a 96-speed index while picking up his fourth career win in six starts this season. Winner of the Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge and a finalist in the Bitterroot Futurity, the bay gelding has banked $23,509 this season.

Diva Has It, a daughter of leading third crop sire One Sweet Jess finished half-a-length back to get the second fastest time of :20.191 seconds, a 94-speed index.

Owned-and-trained by Adrian Quinones, Diva Has It was ridden by jockey Robert Burney. The sorrel filly entered the trials off a fourth-place finish in the Far West Futurity on October 30. Out of the Meter Me Gone mare Jn Sonoma Rose, she has earned $9,436.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Portland Meadows on Sunday, December 17th.

Racing resumes Monday & Tuesday with a special 1pm post time at Portland Meadows. Sunday drew a crowd of nearly 3,000 for Dollar Day at The Races which was the second time this season the track has offered the $1 specials.
