PORTLAND, OR—DECEMBER 17, 2017—Coming off a third-placed effort in the Portland Meadows Fall Derby on November 20th, multiple stakes winner Henry Craig defeated Jesses Claim Ta Fame by three-quarters in the $11,550 Memorial Stakes (not black type) Sunday afternoon at Portland Meadows.

Henry Craig put in a strong effort under jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa after getting bumped from both sides at the start. The son of leading third-crop sire One Sweet Jess completed the 350 yards in :18.163 seconds to take home $5,775 winners' share of the Memorial purse.

Trainer Hector Magallanes saddled the multiple stakes winner for owner-breeder's Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch and Racing. Henry Craig not only won the Baxter Andruss Futurity at the Meadows last year, he also was victorious in the Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos and the Pot O'Gold Futurity at Sun Downs.

After a nine-month layoff Henry Craig made his first start this year in October, finishing second in an Allowance at The Meadows. Out of the multiple stakes producing Corona Cartel mare Copa Show Girl, Henry Craig has compiled an impressive (12) 8-2-2 record and banked $64,920.

Magallanes also saddled runner-up Jesses Claim Ta Fame for owner Chris Philbrook. Jake Samuels rode the Jesse James Jr gelding out of One Fast Trick by Dash Ta Fame. Bred in Oregon by Ronald Raley, the sorrel gelding earned $2,888 for the effort. He increased his bankroll to $27,751.

Multiple stakes-placed L Bar D Genuine Red finished 1-˝ lengths back in third for owner-trainer Hillary Durham. Kassie Guglielmino rode the Genuine Strawfly 3-year-old out of Be First Rose by Ought To Be First. Bred by Darrell and Linda Sanders, L Bar D Genuine Red picked up $1,443 to boost his earnings to $47,810.

Ez Frosty Morn and L bar D Bonnie Lee completed the field.
