Corona B Gone Posts Upset Score In Gary Chumbley Handicap

PORTLAND, OR-JANUARY 22, 2018-The Gary Chumbley Handicap (not black type) at 350 yards was Monday's main event at Portland Meadows, the race was worth nearly 14,450 in the event that was run in the Honor of longtime Quarter Horse owner-breeder Gary Chumbley.

Corona B Gone pulled off a mild upset under the guidance of veteran pilot Lorenzo Lopez. The son of Favorite Cartel took the lead shortly after the start and held off a late challenge by L Bar D Razle Dazle who took second.

Owned by Ruben Magallanes and trained by Hector Magallanes, Corona B Gone raced to victory in a winning time of :17:827 seconds, a 101-speed index, over the wet fast track. The $7,225 winners' purse boosted Corona B Gone's earnings to $18,160.

Bred by Michael and Shannon McKay, Corona B Gone was bred in Oregon from the Shazoom mare Go Girl Gone. The 3-year-old was third in the Baxter Andruss Oregon Bred Futurity in his last start and fourth in the Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity and Pot O'Gold Futurity.

L Bar D Razle Dazle, winner of the Far West Futurity at Portland in October picked up $3,613 for his second-place effort. Also trained by Magallanes, the son of Ragazzo races for owners Tryn Espelien and Herman Torres. Darrel and Linda Sanders bred the stakes winner in Oregon from the Strawfly Special mare Dash Home Deb has banked $24,616 in nine starts. Jake Samuels was up.

It was a trifecta for trainer Magallanes when One For The Brothers finished third, a length back, for owner K and R Allred Ranch, LLC. The royally bred colt by leading One Famous Eagle from the First Down Dash mare One Sweet Dash was bred in Arizona. Bred by Allred Brothers Ranch LLC and ridden by Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa, One For The Brothers earned $1,807. Finishing second in the Fare West Futurity in his last start, the sorrel colt has earnings of $10,318.

L Bar D Classic Trip, Cm Once Ina Bluemoon, Favorite Bling, Three Dashin Bye and Dollar General completed the field. Racing resumes Tuesday at Portland Meadows with a nine race card and a first post of 12 noon.
