HOUSTON, TX—MARCH 30, 2018—Packin Steel, a lightly raced 6-year-old son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry, broke his maiden Friday night while setting the fastest qualifying time for the Sam Houston Maiden Classic (not black type).

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the 103 Quarter Horse who participated in 11 trial races at Sam Houston Friday night, will return to the South Texas racetrack on Saturday, April 14, to vie for the winners' share of the $95,800 Sam Houston Maiden Classic for 3-year-olds and up going 350 yards.

Ridden by AQHA Racing champion jockey Rodrigo Vallejo, Packin Steel rolled over the 350 yards in :17.720 seconds to set the top qualifying time in Race 10.

Trainer Miguel Medina saddled the son of Mr Jess Perry for owner Reuben Garcia Montemayor. Bred in Texas by Bobby D. Cox, the 6-year-old has compiled a (5) 1-3-1 record and banked $10,905. Out of the Runaway winner mare No Fees, Packin Steel was making his first career start in 3 years in Saturday's trials.

Also getting his first win in five starts was Pycs Crock Of Cash, a Pyc Kant Catch Me 3-year-old, racing for owner/breeder Esteban Herrera. Ridden by jockey Noe Villatoro, the 3-year-old clocked the second fastest time of :17.747 seconds, a 91-speed index, while posting a 1-˝ length win in the Race 3.

Rodolfo Sanchez conditions the brown colt for owner/breeder Esteban Herrera. Out of the Roll The Cash mare Miss Crock Of Cash, Pycs Crock Of Cash has compiled a (5) 1-1-3 record.

In just his third career start, Mi Amor Secreto won Race 7 by half-a-length under jockey Santos Carrizales. The son of fourth-crop sire The Louisiana Cartel posted the third fastest time of :17.772 seconds for owner/breeder Kelly Perez.

Trainer Santos Carrizales, Jr. saddled the 3-year-old out of Streakin In Secret, by Feature Mr Jess, to his first career win.
