Conquering Marie Wins The Meet’s First Race For 2-Year-Olds At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 7, 2018—Reliance Ranches LLC’s Conquering Marie scored an impressive 1-¼ length victory in the first race for 2-year-olds of the year at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Bred in Oklahoma by her owners, the filly by first-crop sire Coronado Cartel covered the 300 yards in :15.697.

The well-bred filly is out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Illegal Fireworks, who won six of 18 starts and earned $181,901 in her racing career. She won the 2011 Grade 3 Junos Request Stakes at Remington Park and qualified to the 2010 Texas Classic Derby.

She’s from the family of Totally Illegal, the winner of the Grade 1 QHBC Juvenile Classic and Grade 2 Governor’s Cup Futurity in 1993. Oscar Peinado piloted Conquering Marie for trainer Mike Robbins. She came into this race having recorded the fastest of 50 works on March 20.

"She’s been doing well and really put it together tonight," Robbins said. "She’s been a little green, but that’s to be expected. She’s shown us a lot of talent. She was fairly green in her first work, it was her first time away from the gates. She went :12.5 in that work and for her second drill she worked alongside SC Coronada, who is racing on Sunday night. They both worked sharply in that second drill."

Robbins added that Conquering Marie will be pointed to the Grade 2 Robert Adair Kindegarten Futurity trials to be held here on Sunday, May 6. She’s one of 14 juveniles that Robbins trains that is eligible to run in the Kindergarten trials.

Ed Allred’s Like His Chances, a gelding by Foose out of the stakes winner Sweet TR, finished second in a time of :15.894. Scott Willoughby saddled the Allred-bred runner.

Jeff and Michelle Cravens’ Stels Thor finished third.

Like His Chances and Stels Thor are also eligible to the Kindergarten trials.
