ST. GEORGE, UT—APRIL 8, 2018—Dixie Downs in St. George, Utah hosted their annual trials for the Dixie Downs Futurity and the Dixie Downs Derby on Saturday (April 7).

Dust A Tac Sets Top Mark in Dixie Downs Futurity Trials

Dust A Tac, under jockey Jesus Valenzuela, was an impressive 1-¼ length winner in his career debut Saturday to set the fastest qualifying time for the $40,000-est. Dixie Downs Futurity.

Conditioned by Luis Gonzalez, Dust A Tac cruised over the 300-yard task in :16.030 seconds, into a 5-mph headwind, to post the top time from 32 two-year-olds who participated in six trial races.

The $6,500 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate races for owner Abelardo Gonzalez. County Line Runners bred the son of Tac It Like A Man in Texas from the Dean Miracle mare Deans Dusty Bunny.

The eight fastest qualifier, from 32 two-year-old who started in Saturday's trials, will return to St. George on Saturday, April 29 to vie for the winner's share of a $40,000-est. purse going 300 yards.

Bay Max Fastest In Dixie Downs Derby Trials

Multiple stakes winner Bay Max picked up where he left off last season by posting a three-quarter length win and the fastest time from four trials for the Dixie Downs Derby on Saturday.

Last year the son of Dashair won the Utah Bred Futurity and the Hawthorne-IdaBet.com Futurity-Div.2 as a 2-year-old.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Virgen, the Ryan Christensen trainee was a three-quarter length winner in the second of four Dixie Downs Derby trials Saturday to get the top qualifying mark of :17.896 seconds, a 95-speed index.

Racing for owner/breeder Casey Wolstenholme, Bay Max has compiled a (6) 4-1-1 record and banked over $29,000. He is out of the Olympia (TB) mare Weekend Traffic (TB).

The eight fastest qualifier will return to Dixie Downs on Saturday, April 29 to vie for the winner's share of a $30,000-est. Dixie Downs Derby purse going 350 yards.
