Rock About It Sets New 550-Yard Track Record At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 20, 2018—Remington Park’s seven-year-old track record for the long-stretch distance of 550 yards fell on Sunday afternoon. Rock About It wore down his foes then pulled away with long strides to hit the wire in :26.258 over a good track surface.

Owned by Rockin J Running Horses of Gatesville, Texas and trained by Tammy Johnson, Rock About It was ridden by Benito Baca. The 4-year-old gelding won the $26,100 allowance event by one-length as the even-money wagering favorite.

The former 550-yard track record at Remington Park belonged to Docs Dusty Okie in :26.346, set on May 13, 2011.

Rock About paid $4 to win, $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Ihaveallthecontrol was second and paid $10.40 to place and $5.60 to show. Patriot Pearl finished third and paid $4.20 to show.

The victory was the sixth from 16 starts for Rock About It, a New Mexico-bred by Rock Solid Jess from the Coronas Blackdiamond mare Not Sable Shes Rose. The first-place check of $14,892 moves his overall earnings to $125,851.

Rock About It has had a solid season at Remington Park. He adds the new 550-yard track record to his spring resume that already includes a stakes win in the $50,000 SLM Big Daddy Stakes, also at 550 yards.

Remington Park racing continues with a special five-date holiday weekend, Thursday thru Memorial Day, May 24-28. The first race is at 6pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday afternoon racing starts at 1:30pm. The special Memorial Day program will begin at 3pm.
